Automotive Technician Instructor – Glendale, California

General Function

Technology is evolving quickly; join the team that transfers high‑tech knowledge to technicians who service high‑tech vehicles daily. This role offers automotive technicians the opportunity to advance their careers by teaching and coaching other technicians.

Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

Specific Duties
  • Complete tasks with minimal direction, including self‑guided study, to stay current with technology.
  • Work skillfully with highly technical diagnostic equipment, including scan tools, lab scopes, DVOMs, air‑conditioning recycling equipment, vibration diagnostic equipment, etc.
  • Maintain intermediate computer skills, including the use of the internet, Microsoft Office products, and email.
  • Adapt to rapidly changing situations and work environments.
  • Exhibit excellent time‑management and organizational skills.
  • Travel to in‑dealers as needed.
  • Lead coaching events.
Qualifications

Experience:

  • GM Master Technician certification preferred.
  • Two years of automotive instructor experience.
  • Previous dealership experience.
Required Education
  • Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology or successful completion of a formal Automotive Technology Program with a high school diploma.
  • Four years of automotive technician experience with a high school diploma may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Wage band: $77,000 to $100,000 depending on experience level and certifications.
Work Environment

Work is performed in both classroom and shop/lab settings. Exposure to automotive fumes, fluids, noise, smells, sharp edges, and bump hazards may occur, requiring continuous use of personal protective equipment – safety glasses, gloves, and head protection. Classroom work may involve standing, sitting, walking, occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from the floor, bending, and frequent near‑vision use for reading and computer work.

Physical Requirements

Frequent sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, communicating, reaching, and manipulating objects. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 35 pounds regularly; occasional handling of heavier materials with assistance from lifting equipment. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, monitor, projector, calculator, printer, and standard office equipment.

Eligibility

This position requires a U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export authorization.
