Job summary

Amentum Services, Inc. is seeking a qualified Automotive Painter in San Diego, California to paint or strip paint from contract units in accordance with customer specifications.

The role requires hands-on painting using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other equipment, plus masking, surface prep, and corrosion control techniques. A background in maintenance and ability to pass safety and color vision tests are needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Three years of recent painting experience on contract units.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications.
  • Must pass color vision, PFT and respirator tests.

Responsibilities

  • Coat surfaces with primer, paint, lacquer or epoxy using brushes, rollers or spray devices.
  • Remove old paint with solvents or blasting techniques.
  • Prepare surfaces to ensure paint adhesion and corrosion control.
  • Mask areas not to be painted and apply insignia per specs.

Job description

Amentum is looking for a qualified Painter, Automotive in our San Diego, California location.

Paint or remove paint from contract units in accordance with customer specifications. Understands and applies various corrosion control methods and technologies. Position reports to Supervisor.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Coats surfaces of contract units with primer, paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other material, using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other devices.
  • Removes old paint using liquid paint remover and scraper or plastic/sand media blasting techniques.
  • Smoothes surface with sandpaper and steel wool. Roughens aluminum surfaces with acid solution and steel wool to ensure that paint adheres to surface and provides corrosion control methods to customer specifications.
  • Masks and covers portions of surfaces not to be painted. Paints insignia, letters or numerals on vehicle surface, using stencils.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Must have three (3) years of recent experience in the maintenance, overhaul and painting/depainting of contract unit equipment.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a Normal Color Vision test.
  • Must be able to pass a PFT and Respirator Fit test.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned tasks.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass and maintain any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks.
  • Pre‑employment drug screening is required.
  • May be required to pass a U.S. Government background security check.
  • Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security/SCI Security Clearance.
  • Be proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain all base access security requirements.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feed; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Position may require travel.

Salary and Other Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is $28.43 per hour. Plus $7.75 per hour, up to 40 hours per week, for Health & Welfare.
