Job summary

Cox Automotive in Romulus, MI is seeking an Automotive Mechanic Technician II to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles. This role supports service and delivery of vehicles with emphasis on quality and cost control, and may work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities include oil changes, filter replacements, diagnostics, and some fabrication, with complex repairs and hybrid/system work as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• ASE certifications required.
• Valid Driver's License and safe driving record required.
• 2–3 years of vehicle service and repair experience; 1 year of customer service experience preferred.
• Must be able to work days, afternoons, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
• Must continue training to maintain current State Certification status and to meet technology and fleet changes.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance such as oil changes, oil and fuel filters, battery, transmission flush, and inspection of vehicle for mechanical deficiencies.
• Perform some more complex repairs, advanced diagnostics, and some fabrication.
• Work on repairs including OBD II systems, brakes components, tune-ups, suspensions, electrical systems, engine and drive line components.
• Keep the shop area clean and tidy; follow safety standards and dispose of fluids and materials properly.
• Assist with troubleshooting complex systems, hybrids, and onboard computer systems.
• Take initiative and exceed standard of work as needed by supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.

Automotive Mechanic Technician II

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6AM - 2:30PM

A mid- level vehicle technician provides a high-quality vehicle maintenance and repairs for fleet vehicles. Provides service and delivery of vehicles with exceptional service to customers and is mindful of the control of costs. The technician may work independently or in a team environment.

• Perform Preventive Maintenance such as change oil, oil filter, fuel filter, battery, transmission flush, and inspection of vehicle for mechanical deficiencies.
• Performs some more complex repairs, advanced diagnostics, and some fabrication.
• Based upon certification levels, various repairs and maintenance which may include: OBD II systems, brake components, tune-ups, suspension components, electrical systems, interior/exterior components, engine and drive line components, etc.
• Keep the shop area clean and tidy. Perform work in accordance with safety standards. Dispose of all fluids and martials in a safe manner and in accordance with all regulations.
• Assures availability of specialized vehicle troubleshooting and repairing complex systems repairs, and electrical systems, hybrids, and on-board computer systems.
• Go above and beyond when inspecting units' work is done at the higher standard.
• Take action on a work without being asked by one's supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.

Required Experience & Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• High School Diploma preferred.
• State or ASE Certifications required
• Valid Driver's License and safe driving record required.
• 2-3 years of vehicle service and repair experience; 1 year of customer service experience preferred.
• Must be able to workdays, afternoons, weekends, and holidays when necessary
• Must continue training to maintain current State Certification status and to meet with technology and fleet changes as they occur.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk, and hear.
• Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat and climb.
• Vision abilities required include close, distance and color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Requires physical ability and mental acuity to execute the duties of the position successfully within required timeframes to meet business requirements.
