Job summary

Protech Automotive Solutions is hiring for a field-install technician who will install and troubleshoot GPS, ELDs, telematics, dash cameras, sensors, and tracking equipment across light-duty vehicles and heavy fleet assets.

You’ll perform 12V/24V wiring, route wiring for clean installations, and test system functionality while documenting work. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and customer service with occasional weekend work and travel.

Qualifications

• Hands-on automotive, electrical, mechanical, or installation experience.
• Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and basic diagnostics.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical instructions.

Responsibilities

• Install and troubleshoot GPS, ELDs, telematics, dash cameras, sensors, and tracking equipment.
• Work on light-duty vehicles, commercial trucks, tractors, trailers, and fleet assets.
• Perform basic 12V/24V wiring work including power, ignition, ground, and diagnostics.
• Route and secure wiring for clean, professional installations.
• Test GPS, cellular connectivity, cameras, sensors, and system functionality.
• Diagnose electrical, connectivity, and installation issues.
• Document installations with photos, device information, and service notes.
• Maintain safety, quality, and right-first-time installations.
• Occasionally work weekends or adjusted schedules to support projects.
• Travel to customer locations for mobile installations, with occasional market travel.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Install and troubleshoot GPS, ELDs, telematics, dash cameras, sensors, and tracking equipment.

• Work on light-duty vehicles, commercial trucks, tractors, trailers, and other fleet assets.

• Perform basic 12V/24V wiring, including power, ignition, ground, diagnostic, and trailer connections.

• Route and secure wiring for clean, professional installations.

• Test GPS, cellular connectivity, cameras, sensors, and system functionality.

• Diagnose electrical, connectivity, and installation issues.

• Document completed installations with photos, device information, and service notes.

• Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and right-first-time installations.

• Occasionally work weekends or adjusted schedules to support customer projects, fleet installations, or business needs.

• Travel to customer and fleet locations for mobile installations and projects, including occasional travel outside your assigned market based on business needs.

MECHANIC EXPERIENCE? WE WANT YOU.

Your automotive experience can be a strong foundation for this role. Candidates with backgrounds in:

• Automotive repair

• Automotive electrical

• Fleet maintenance

• Diesel/heavy-duty mechanics

• Vehicle upfitting

• Mobile service

• ADAS/diagnostics

• Telematics or vehicle electronics are encouraged to apply.

You don't need to know every telematics system on day one. We’re looking for strong technical aptitude, hands-on experience, and the ability to learn.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Hands-on automotive, electrical, mechanical, or installation experience.

• Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and basic diagnostics.

• Comfortable using hand and power tools.

• Ability to read basic wiring diagrams and technical instructions.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Comfortable working independently in a mobile environment.

• Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work.

• Professional communication and customer service skills.

• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in, around, and underneath vehicles and trailers.

• 21+ years of age

NICE TO HAVE

• Telematics/GPS/ELD installation experience.

• Experience with Samsara, Geotab, Motive, Verizon Connect, Lytx, or similar platforms.

• 12V/24V electrical experience.

• Commercial truck or trailer experience.

• ADAS scanning or calibration experience.

• ASE, I-CAR, or related certifications.
