Job summary

Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. in Farmington Hills, MI is seeking an Application Engineer for Automotive High-Speed Cables. This hybrid role requires in-office collaboration four days a week with flexibility for remote work.

You will lead meetings, define cable specs, and work with design verification and program teams to ensure high-speed data cable performance per OEM standards. Strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–7 years experience with automotive high-speed data cables.

Responsibilities

• Attend and lead internal/customer meetings related to high speed data cables (Coax, Ethernet, A2B, USB).
• Work with internal design verification group to understand testing requirements and evaluate signal integrity based on OEM specs.
• Support RFQ activities involving high speed data cables considering manufacturing equipment and capabilities.
• Define cable type, conductor size, shielding, insulation, and connector interfaces with program teams.
• Apply knowledge of Automotive Ethernet (100BASE-T1, 1000BASE-T1, higher-speed Ethernet) to SEWS cables business.
• Perform root-cause analysis using lab measurement equipment and implement corrective actions.
• Serve as primary technical contact for customers on high-speed automotive cable/interconnect applications.
• Travel periodically to customer/OEM/Tier-1 locations as required.
• Interface with cross-functional groups, program managers and division management.
