Job Overview/Summary: Senior automotive software engineer with 5+ years of experience focused on Android Automotive, software development, system integration testing, debugging, validation, and integration of next-generation automotive experience platforms.

The Automotive Experience Platform team within Qualcomm’s automotive business unit builds solutions that showcase future technologies in the automotive industry. The team highlights upcoming automotive technologies from Qualcomm and its partners at global trade shows and in private demonstrations for key industry stakeholders.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Automotive Experience Platform team, you will design, develop, debug, validate, and integrate Android and automotive software features that demonstrate future vehicle experiences. You will work hands‑on across development and system integration testing activities, including triaging complex issues, analyzing logs, debugging software across Android, Linux, QNX, middleware, and embedded interfaces, and driving issues to closure. You will collaborate with platform teams, UX teams, system integration teams, and partner organizations to support rapid prototyping, demo readiness, and reliable execution for customer and trade show showcases. This role is well suited for an engineer who can both build software and perform deep SIT-level debugging in a fast‑paced automotive environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
• OR Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of Software Engineering or related work experience.
• OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
• 2+ years of academic or work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in Android, Android Automotive, embedded systems, or automotive software platforms.
• Strong hands‑on programming experience in Java or Kotlin, with solid working knowledge of C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python.
• Strong understanding of Android framework, Android services, application lifecycle, IPC mechanisms, permissions, build systems, debugging tools, and system‑level behavior.
• Experience with Android Automotive OS, automotive middleware, vehicle interfaces, CAN, SOME/IP, MQTT or other in‑vehicle communication technologies is highly preferred.
• Experience performing system integration testing, issue triage, log analysis, root‑cause analysis, and debugging across software, middleware, operating system, and hardware interfaces.
• Familiarity with Linux and QNX operating systems, embedded software environments, and cross‑platform integration workflows.
• Strong software design, development, unit testing, debugging, validation, and integration skills.
• Experience with source control, issue tracking, CI/CD workflows, release processes, and collaborative software development practices.
• Ability to work independently, drive technical issues to closure, and collaborate effectively with cross‑functional engineering, UX, platform, and partner teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear documentation of technical findings, integration steps, defects, and validation results.
• Experience with Qt, IoT, cloud‑connected vehicle experiences, or AI‑assisted software development tools is a plus.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Design, develop, modify, validate, and debug Android, Android Automotive, embedded, edge, and utility software applications for automotive experience platforms.
• Develop and integrate software features that support concept vehicle demonstrations, prototype features, customer showcases, and global trade show experiences.
• Perform system integration testing and SIT‑level debugging by analyzing logs, traces, crashes, timing issues, interface failures, and end‑to‑end system behavior across multiple software and hardware layers.
• Drive root‑cause analysis and issue closure for complex integration problems involving Android framework, applications, middleware, vehicle interfaces, operating systems, and embedded components.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to clarify requirements, define technical approaches, estimate work, manage dependencies, and deliver high‑quality software within project schedules.
• Support software bring‑up, integration, validation, and demo readiness activities on target hardware, concept vehicles, and automotive development platforms.
• Contribute to software architecture and design discussions, while ensuring practical implementation choices that support rapid prototyping and reliable demonstrations.
• Mentor junior engineers, share debugging practices, review code, and promote engineering quality across development and integration activities.
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation for software design, integration procedures, debugging findings, known issues, and validation results.

Success in This Role

A successful candidate will be a hands‑on senior engineer who can move confidently between software development and system integration testing. The candidate should have strong Android and automotive software experience, the ability to debug complex cross‑layer issues, and the ownership mindset to drive problems from initial triage through root cause, fix validation, and closure. This person should communicate clearly, collaborate effectively across teams, and help deliver reliable, high‑visibility prototype and demonstration software in a fast‑paced automotive environment.

Pay Range and Other Compensation & Benefits

$117,800.00 - $176,600.00
