Job summary

SolvIT, Inc. is seeking an Automotive Electrical Test Technician to support the build, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automotive electrical test systems onsite in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

• Ability to troubleshoot electrical wiring, connections, components, and communication issues.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently after receiving direction while also collaborating with a technical team.

Responsibilities

• Build, wire, and connect automotive electrical test systems using ECUs, sensors, connectors, terminals, relays, wiring, and related components.
• Read and interpret automotive wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, connector views, and other technical documentation.
• Mount and organize ECUs, panels, wiring, brackets, and test-system components.
• Troubleshoot wiring, power, grounding, communication, and connection issues using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
• Support CAN and other automotive communication networks used within test systems.
• Assist with automated test-system setup, software testing, ECU configuration, and diagnostic procedures.
• Maintain wiring documentation, test logs, component records, and other build documentation.
• Identify needed components and assist with parts tracking and inventory.
• Repair or replace damaged or non-functioning components and assist with ongoing test-system maintenance.
• Support engineers and other team members with hands-on electrical testing, troubleshooting, and system updates.

DAYS/HOURS: Monday - Friday, standard business hours.

This position is fully onsite.

The Automotive Electrical Test Technician is a hands-on role supporting the build, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automotive electrical test systems. This position works with automotive bucks, ECUs, wiring, connectors, sensors, diagnostic equipment, and related components to support vehicle electrical testing and development.

What does the Automotive Electrical Test Technician do?

The Automotive Electrical Test Technician supports the setup, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automotive electrical test systems. This role involves hands-on work with ECUs, wiring, connectors, sensors, communication networks, diagnostic tools, and other electronic components used within automotive bucks and test environments.

• At least one year of hands-on experience with automotive electrical systems, electronics, wiring, diagnostics, or a closely related technical field.
• Experience reading and following automotive wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Hands-on experience using electrical hand tools, crimpers, multimeters, and related test equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical wiring, connections, components, and communication issues.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently after receiving direction while also collaborating effectively with a technical team.

What makes you an All Star:

• Experience building or maintaining automotive bucks, test benches, prototype harnesses, or similar automotive development systems.
• Experience working directly with ECUs, modules, sensors, connectors, and vehicle communication networks.
• Familiarity with CAN, diagnostic protocols, or automotive diagnostic software.
• Experience with automated diagnostics, scan tools, ECU programming/configuration, or software-based testing.
• Experience maintaining technical documentation, parts records, or build-tracking information.
• Technical education or certification in automotive technology, electronics, electrical engineering technology, mechatronics, or a related field.

A set work schedule will be provided, but some flexibility is required as hours may vary due to need

Attending training on non-scheduled hours may be required periodically with advanced notice

Physical demands: This role includes a combination of sedentary and moderate physical activity. Duties may require regular standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting or moving of objects up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in a well-lit, ventilated, and climate-controlled environment where standard safety precautions are observed.

Work environment: This position is primarily performed onsite in an automotive testing and technical workspace. The role involves regular hands-on work with electrical components, automotive bucks, tools, test equipment, and related materials. Standard safety practices must be followed at all times.
