Job summary

Bob Ruth Ford is hiring a Diesel Technician to perform comprehensive repairs on Ford vehicles, including diesel engines and transmissions. The role requires PA driver’s license and PA safety/emissions licenses, with a schedule including some early/late shifts and Saturdays.

The dealership offers training, benefits, and a family-owned atmosphere. Ideal candidates have 2+ years of service technician experience, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to work with diagnostic tools and common shop

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Valid PA Driver’s license and PA Safety/Emissions license required.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in physical positions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs on automotive systems per orders and Ford standards.
  • Diagnose and repair engine, electrical, steering, suspension, and brakes.
  • Provide labor estimates and explain repairs to customers in plain language.
  • Stay updated through Ford training and certification programs.

Job Requirements (required)
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid Pennsylvania Driver’s license
  • A valid Pennsylvania Safety and Emissions Inspections license
  • Ability to work a 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday schedule, as well as one “late day” (7:30am to 6:00pm) per week and one Saturday per month (7:30am to 12:00pm)
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, physical endurance to stand, squat, kneel and be in other uncomfortable positions
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools, hand and power tools, and understanding of various vehicle systems
  • Ownership of required tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, gauges, etc.)
Job Requirements (preferred)
  • 2+ years of Service Technician experience preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • State Inspection & Emissions License required
  • Dexterity, requiring a steady hand, excellent hand-eye coordination
  • Mechanical and troubleshooting skills and ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment
  • Excellent customer service skills and basic computer competencies
  • Positive, friendly attitude, along with an eagerness to improve
  • Enjoy working in a dynamic environment
  • Team member with ability to collaborate with others effectively
  • Ability to learn new technology, repair and service procedures and specifications
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Job Duties

Diesel Technicians are responsible for all repairs to automotive systems, including brakes, climate control, electrical, steering and suspension, and gasoline and diesel engines. At this level, the incumbent may specialize in diesel engines, automatic transmissions, or other advanced repairs. This position also completes various Ford training and certification programs, such as those required for warranty work. Overall, this involves:

  • Performing work specified on maintenance and repair orders with efficiency and in accordance with dealership and/or Ford standards
  • Diagnosing and repair vehicle automotive systems including engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, air conditioning, etc. to specification
  • Providing labor and time estimates for additional automotive repairs
  • Explaining mechanical diagnoses and required repairs in a non-technical manner to service advisors and customers
  • Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions in order to stay abreast with rapidly changing technology.
  • Inspecting and testing new vehicles and recording findings so that necessary repairs can be made.
