Job summary

OpTalent is partnering with a large, highly automated manufacturing and distribution operation in McDonough, GA to recruit an experienced Automation Technician. This is a hands-on role troubleshooting complex electrical, PLC, robotic, controls and material-handling systems in a 24/7 operation.

You will work with Maintenance, Engineering and Operations to improve equipment reliability, uptime and throughput, mentoring others and prioritizing safety.

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years of industrial maintenance experience with a focus on automation.
• Strong hands-on experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs.
• Industrial electrical experience up to 480V.
• Experience with robotics, material handling and conveyors.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, ladder logic, and P&IDs.
• Maintenance of automated equipment including robots and conveyors.
• Safety-first mindset with LOTO practices.
• Willingness to work off-hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems up to 480V, including motors, drives, transformers, control panels and power distribution.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLC-controlled equipment and industrial control systems.
• Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, sensors, encoders and networked controls.
• Troubleshoot and maintain robotic systems, automated sortation, conveyors, AMRs and packaging equipment.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, P&IDs and mechanical drawings.
• Perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on automated equipment.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions for recurring equipment failures.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment uptime, throughput, reliability and OEE.
• Support equipment installations, upgrades and engineering projects.
• Work with Engineering, Operations, vendors and other technical teams to resolve complex issues.
• Mentor and support other maintenance technicians with troubleshooting and technical best practices.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety, including proper LOTO and electrical safety procedures.
• Provide support during occasional after-hours and weekend requirements.
