Job summary

Colonial Group in New Albany, Ohio, is seeking a production floor technician responsible for keeping automated process equipment running. The role requires adjusting, repairing, replacing, or modifying system components to maintain continuous operation and production flow.

You will diagnose electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic problems, perform changeovers, clear jams, and conduct preventative maintenance while documenting changes in our systems and maintaining spare parts inventories.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of 120VAC & 24VDC control circuits and 480V 3-phase power safety practices.
• Proficient with PLCs and VFD controlled machinery.
• Maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical components.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical diagrams.
• Proper use of power tools and measuring equipment; maintain tools required for automated equipment.
• Windows-based computer operation.
• Overtime, weekends, and long shifts may be required.
• Capable of standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Perform machine changeovers between parts/jobs.
• Clear machine jams as needed.
• Clean machines and perform preventative maintenance.
• Troubleshoot product issues and adjust as necessary.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues on machines.
• Fabricate items to adapt feeding systems, tracks, fixtures, and tooling; seek guidance as needed.
• Diagnose and repair electrical issues including sensors, relays, servo systems, motor controls, and PLCs.
• Adjust robot positions and coordinate types; troubleshoot errors.
• Document all machine/tooling changes in installation or operation as required.
• Maintain inventory for spare parts.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all machine systems.
• Document equipment history through Syteline and Directline.

JOB SUMMARY

This production floor position is responsible for maintaining continuous system operation by adjusting, repairing, replacing, or modifying system components on automated process equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Perform machine changeovers from part-to-part/job-to-job.
• Clear machine jams as needed.
• Clean machine as needed/ perform preventative maintenance.
• Troubleshoot machine product issues (metal and plastic), adjusting where necessary.
• Troubleshoot machine related mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues, adjusting where necessary.
• Able to adjust and fabricate items needed to adapt bowl feeding systems, tracks, fixtures, and tooling to make a good product at designated rates. Providing feedback or receive guidance from the Automation Technician Supervisor or Manufacturing Engineer as needed.
• Able to diagnose and repair electrical issues including sensors, relays, servo systems, motor controls, and PLCs.
• Able to adjust robot positions, coordinate types, jog, and troubleshoot errors.
• Document all changes made to machines, fixtures or tooling made through installation, debug or normal operation as required by Manufacturing Engineering.
• Maintain inventory for spare parts.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance actions on all machine systems and machine subsystems as needed.
• Document equipment history through Syteline and Directline.
• Communicate with the production shift personnel, Automation Technician Supervisor, Automation technician on the current shift and off shifts. Communication to include, but not be limited to the shift status on issues and performance for all machines.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong knowledge of 120VAC control circuits, 24VDC control circuit, Industrial Power 3 Phase 480V and industry accepted electrical safety practices for testing energized circuits
• Strong knowledge of PLC’s and VFD controlled machinery
• Proficient in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, pneumatic and electrical components
• Able to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical diagrams including complex automated system drawings.
• Proper use of power tools and measuring equipment--must have and maintain all hand and test tools required to maintain automated equipment.
• Computer proficient--Microsoft Windows based computer operation.
• Must be able to work overtime as needed, sometimes on short notice or on weekends.
• Capable of standing for long periods of time.
• Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
