Job summary

Job description

Position Summary

The Automation Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, and troubleshooting of automated systems and equipment within our manufacturing plant.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and software issues in automated systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize automation processes.
  • Maintain automated machinery and control systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on automated equipment.
  • Document maintenance activities and maintain accurate records of repairs and modifications.
  • Train and support production staff on the operation of automated systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations in all automation activities.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in automation technology.
  • Must actively support production, resolving issues as they arise, to minimize downtime.
  • Supports the Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Assists with development of specifications, new tools, processes and training procedures.
  • Utilizes disciplined and proven problem-solving techniques to determine root cause analysis for equipment downtime and customer complaints and develops permanent corrective actions.
  • Champions scrap reduction activities in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Supports, contributes, and demonstrates lean manufacturing principles in work area.
  • Continuously works toward achieving goals and measurables of the facility.
  • Complies with policies, procedures, and facility standards in ISO14001, ISO45001, IATF 16949, including safety and environmental guidelines.
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description.
Education and Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Automation Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience as an Automation Technician or similar role in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Ability to analyze equipment and processes in an industrial environment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, robotics, and control systems.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with industrial networking protocols and systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment/Work Conditions
  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor.
  • Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury.
