Job Summary

The Automation Technician executes routine automation and control system tasks with minor variation, adjusting methods to resolve common operational issues. This role supports daily plant operations by maintaining and troubleshooting automation systems under direct supervision.

Job Profile Summary

The Automation Technician maintains, configures, and troubleshoots Distributive Control and Safety Instrumented systems in support of safe, reliable operation of gas processing plants. The qualified candidate must possess and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and environmental policies. Communication with operations, I&E, maintenance, measurement, and engineering groups is crucial to successfully executing the duties of this position. Diagnose and maintain control system hardware and software – support Microsoft Windows 2016 and Microsoft Server 2016 operating systems or newer and related hardware within a Microsoft Domain environment. Maintain documentation of control systems and OT and optical fiber networks. Troubleshoot any control issues and implement corrective actions. Assist with the design and installation of new plant automation equipment. Assist with planning, installation, and maintenance of all processing equipment within the facilities. Consult with vendors on development of new or upgraded equipment for plant automation systems. Maintain robust OT security and redundancy for Plant Control Networks. Provide accurate and timely information for all types of process equipment to maximize the profitability of plant operations. Assist in cost control of Plant Control System and OT Network maintenance. Maintain, modify, and troubleshoot DCS, SIS and/or PLC to maximize use of control technology and minimize installation and operating costs. Support ongoing maintenance, repairs and calibration of online chromatography and sample systems associated with natural gas processing and fractionation.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
  • Maintain, modify, and troubleshoot DCS, SIS, PLC and HMIs to maximize use of control technology and minimize installation and operating costs.
  • Support Microsoft Windows 2016 and Microsoft Server 2016 operating systems or newer and related hardware within a Microsoft Domain environment.
  • Maintain documentation of control systems as well as OT networks and optical fiber networks.
  • Troubleshoot any control issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with the design and installation of new automation equipment.
  • Assist with planning, installation and maintenance of all controls equipment within the facilities.
  • Consult with vendors in the development of new or upgraded equipment for automation systems.
  • Maintain robust OT security and redundancy for Control Networks.
  • Provide accurate and timely information for all types of process equipment to maximize the profitability of operations.
  • Assist in cost control of Control System and OT Network maintenance.
  • Work with a minimum of supervision and manage time when given multiple tasks.
  • Travel may be required as needed to support business and organizational needs.
  • Work overtime and respond to emergencies as required.
  • Meet regulatory testing requirements with all pertinent equipment as needed.
  • Pass pre‑employment drug screening and be subject to random DOT drug testing.
  • Capable of lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Capable of vigorous outdoor activities and manual dexterity with physical ability to work extended hours, climbing, bending, kneeling, squatting, working with arms extended above the head, twisting upper body, standing for prolonged periods, walking on catwalks, working in confined spaces, exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Some travel may be required.
Education
  • High School diploma or GED required
Work Experience
  • Minimum 5 years related DCS/SIS or PLC experience.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Foxboro DCS, Rockwell PLCs and HMIs, PlantPAX, Aveva or WonderWare HMIs, Honeywell C‑300 Controllers, Honeywell Safety Manager and/or Emerson DeltaV systems.
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, electrical one‑line diagrams and other complex drawings. Able to accurately red‑line changes to drawings.
  • Familiarity with requirements related to Process Safety Management and ability to perform functions necessary to implement changes to systems and maintain documentation in compliance with these requirements.
  • Must work with a minimum of supervision and be able to manage time when given multiple tasks.
  • Must possess the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with other individuals, teams, customers, and stakeholders of the business at various levels of the organization, in a business‑like and professional manner.
