Job Summary

Automation Specialist responsible for design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of automation and control systems for air or liquid‑cooled high‑performance computing (HPC) data centers.

Job Details

Full‑Time | Location: Dallas / Fort Worth | Department: Operations – Engineering | Reporting to: VP, Engineering

Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary contact for controls and automation in HPC data centers, ensuring all automation systems for cooling are operating as expected.
  • Interpret, maintain, and develop new code for PLCs, controllers, and SCADA systems.
  • Troubleshoot control and automation issues that affect equipment performance and cooling.
  • Participate in design, construction, or commissioning activities for projects.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and cooling engineers to translate operational changes into reliable control logic and programming.
  • Follow management of change procedures, ensuring safe coding deployments and accurate version control for all control devices in scope.
  • Work with IT and DevOps to provide field signals and information to enterprise supervisory systems for process monitoring and alarm management.
  • Maintain complete and accurate record files for control and automation.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, computer science, automation technology discipline or equivalent technical training.
  • At least two years of automation experience in an industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of control theory (PID, hysteresis, scaled inputs, etc.).
  • Hands‑on experience with PLCs, SCADA, robotics, or scripting languages such as Python.
  • Proficiency with PLC programming languages (Ladder Diagram, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text, Sequential Function Chart).
  • Understanding of field devices, sensors, actuators, signal types, and wiring for control and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of industrial networks and communication protocols.
  • Excellent abstract thinking, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Self‑driven with strong attention to detail and ability to perform high‑quality work with limited direction.
  • Comfortable dealing with uncertainty and limited resources.
  • Pre‑employment screening, background check, and substance testing may be required.
  • Must provide own steel‑toed work boots; other PPE will be supplied.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to the work site daily or plan relocation before starting work.
