Danos, LLC seeks an Automation Specialist to install, program, calibrate and maintain automation equipment for upstream onshore oil and gas operations in Carlsbad, NM. You will troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation and control systems, using SAP CMMS and standard industry practices.

Required are a 2-year instrumentation/automation degree or equivalent, 7+ years of experience, mastery of well RTU designs, and ability to work 12-hour shifts with on-call rotation.

  • 2-year instrumentation or automation technology degree or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years as Automation Specialist in process industries.
  • Strong knowledge of RTU designs and PLCs.
  • Experience with instrumentation and industrial communications.
  • Ability to pass background, drug test, and fit-for-duty.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair automation and electrical equipment for upstream onshore oil and gas operations.
  • Provide on-site automation support.
  • Serve as technical resource for facility controls and field instrumentation.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with industry and Process Control standards.
  • Follow PLC programming practices and MOC procedures.
  • Identify improvement opportunities in instrumentation and control systems; use CMMS like SAP to facilitate operations.

Overview

Responsible for installation, programming, calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of automation equipment Has Mid-Level tech skills plus expert level insight from wisdom gained through experience to offer alternative solutions in automation design and control philosophies, advanced abilities troubleshooting PLC logic control systems. Possess entry level integrator skills and uses engineering design documents to commission control systems, validate control loops, confirm functionality of control logic, configure end devices, and test alarms. Applies knowledge in design reviews and process hazard analysis.

Responsibilities
  • Responsibility of maintaining and repairing a wide array of automation and electrical equipment associated with upstream onshore oil and gas producing operations.
  • Provide on-site automation support for upstream onshore oil and gas producing operations.
  • Serve as technical resource for facility controls systems and field instrumentation including level, pressure, flow, vibration, and other instruments.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are executed in compliance with relevant industry and corporate Process Control standards.
  • Follow PLC programming practices, standards, and MOC procedures.
  • Identify problem areas with instrumentation and control systems to determine strategic improvement opportunities.
  • Leverage CMMS, such as SAP, to facilitate the processes of maintenance operations.
Qualifications
  • 2-year Instrumentation or Automation technology degree with a GPA of 2.5 or higher (or foreign equivalent), or equivalent technical working experience with a good track record of safety.
  • 7+ years of experience working as an Automation Specialist.
  • Mastery knowledge of well RTU designs, programming and troubleshooting.
  • Mastery knowledge of analog and discrete instrumentation, and various serial and ethernet communications protocols.
  • Mastery knowledge of technical standards and guidelines (API, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ISA, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of maintaining PLC programs in function block, ladder logic, and structured text.
  • Advanced knowledge of maintaining local HMI operator interfaces.
  • Ability and willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and participate in an on-call rotation. Schedules may vary depending on location.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to unassigned job areas on an as-needed basis.
  • Ability and willingness to work under air (fit test) and work from aerial manlift platform.
  • Works safely around instrumentation and electrical systems.
  • Capable of working responsibly with limited supervision.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Must meet conditonal job offer requirements including background, drug test (hair follicle), MVR, and fit for duty and agility.
