Job summary

UL Research Institutes' Materials Discovery Research Institute (MDRI) in Skokie, IL seeks a Research Scientist III to translate manual procedures into scalable automated workflows for liquid and powder dispensing, synthesis, heating, filtration, sample preparation, robotic transfer, and analytical characterization.

The role supports integration of instruments and robotics, develops software tools and data pipelines to improve traceability, data quality, and interpretation, and works across

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering.
• Experience designing and executing automated lab workflows.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot robotic systems and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, validate, and execute automated chemistry workflows for high-throughput experiments.
• Translate manual procedures into scalable automated workflows for synthesis, handling, and characterization.
• Collaborate with scientists to advance automation-enabled materials discovery initiatives.
• Develop SOPs and documentation for lab operations.
• Contribute to technical reports and publications.
