Job summary

VARITE is seeking an Automation QA Engineer 2 for a hybrid role in San Jose, CA. You will partner with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable automated tests, improve coverage, reliability, and efficiency across desktop, web, and cloud-based applications.

The position supports CI/CD pipelines, uses AI-assisted tools to accelerate test development, and requires 2–4 years of experience with a Bachelor's or Master's in CS/Engineering.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience in software test automation or QA.
• Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript, Java, or C++.
• Proficiency using test automation frameworks, tools, and infrastructure.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT) for test development.
• Understanding of SDLC, testing methodologies, and CI/CD practices.
• Solid debugging, root cause analysis, and defect-tracking skills.
• Experience testing desktop, web, and/or cloud-based applications.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Job Title: Automation QA Engineer 2

Location: San Jose, CA 95110 (Hybrid)

Contract Duration: 2.4 months with possible extension

Pay Range: $48.00/hr. to $52.81/hr. on W2

Work Authorization: US Citizen or Green Card only

Note: Need a temporary contractor to cover a paternity leave absence from October 26, 2026, through January 7, 2027

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Partner with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, design, and research, to ensure the delivery of high-quality products.
• Develop and implement scalable test automation solutions to improve test coverage, reliability, and efficiency.
• Design, execute, and maintain automated tests for functional, integration, performance, and end-to-end scenarios.
• Create automation test plans and test cases from product requirements, technical designs, and user workflows.
• Diagnose defects, perform root cause analysis, and collaborate with developers to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
• Validate product quality across diverse platforms, operating systems, and deployment environments.
• Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and quality gates.
• Monitor quality metrics and test outcomes to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Drive innovation in test automation, tooling, and quality engineering best practices to increase team effectiveness and product quality.

Skills:

• 2-4 years of experience in software test automation, quality engineering, or software development.
• Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript, Java, C++, or similar languages.
• Experience developing and maintaining test automation frameworks, tools, and infrastructure.
• Proficiency using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT) to accelerate test development and debugging.
• Solid understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC), testing methodologies, and CI/CD practices.
• Strong debugging, root cause analysis, and defect-tracking skills.
• Familiarity with performance, scalability, reliability, and end-to-end testing.
• Experience testing desktop, web, and/or cloud-based applications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Optional (nice-to-have)

• Experience testing AI/ML-powered products or GenAI features.
• Familiarity with image-processing, creative applications, or automation-driven quality evaluation.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent.
