Job summary

GSK is seeking an on-site Automation and Controls Engineer at the Zebulon, NC facility to support value stream production equipment and projects. You will assist with installation, commissioning, and validation, drive continuous improvement, and mentor maintenance staff.

The role requires 5+ years in industrial automation, strong instrumentation/controls knowledge, and experience with ERP/SAP and industrial IT tools. On-site presence is expected at a GMP site with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in relevant technical field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in industrial automation/engineering with instrumentation, controls, PLCs, HMIs, and electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Experience in cGMP/FDA-regulated environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily floor production support for automation and instrumentation issues.
  • Develop and implement equipment improvements focusing on OEE, reliability, safety, and quality.
  • Contribute to maintenance strategy improvements and participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Create technical documentation such as Change Control Requests and training materials.

Position Summary

You will provide daily automation and controls support of value stream production equipment and processes in coordination with the area maintenance team. Contribute toward the successful implementation of small and large capital equipment projects by providing technical support to engineering teams in the execution phases of installation, commissioning, and validation. Manage and assume all responsibilities for the implementation of small equipment and process improvement projects targeted to improve failure rate and overall equipment efficiency. Support assessment and capabilities development of engineering technicians in coordination with maintenance supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Provide daily on the floor production support to value stream areas experiencing engineering/automation or instrumentation and controls equipment issues or failure.
  • Work with maintenance, engineering and production staff in developing and implementing a variety of equipment improvements, primarily in the areas of OEE, reliability engineering, safety, or process
  • and/or quality improvements.
  • Work with maintenance staff in continuously evaluating corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance strategies on production equipment and systems by participation in continuous
  • improvement projects.
  • Develop technical documentation including e-pips, Change Control Request, technical specifications, training documents, etc as directed by maintenance supervisor.
  • Provide mentoring and support to maintenance staff as required.
  • Support capability development of engineering techs (ET) by participating is skills assessments and training sessions.
Basic Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in computer science, Engineering Technology, Instrumentation & Controls, or equivalent years of experience.
  • 5+ years of industrial engineering/automation experience including knowledge of instrumentation, control systems, PLC’s, HMI’s, pneumatic, electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical expertise in P&ID nomenclature, instrumentation and electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Proficient in SAP (work orders, history, maintenance plans).
  • Good knowledge of cGMPs, and experience in an FDA regulated environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Bachelor's in science in Engineering
  • Experience within Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil/Structural, Instrumentation & Controls
  • Technical knowledge of this the technology and ability to problem solve.
  • Works well on team, flexibility, time management, task prioritization, Strong communication skills, self-motivated
  • Ability to learn quickly, think creatively and apply new skills given rapid change in technology
  • Knowledge of Industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, BACnet, OPC UC, etc.)
  • Experience w/ Software(s): Kepware, Wireshark, Patch Manger, Service Now, Panorama, Tenable.IO, VM Ware, ESXi Host Manag. and familiar w/ Nutanix or other hyperconverged environments
  • Experience administering Windows Active Directory, Network Services (IP, DHCP, DNS and WINS), group management
  • Experience with serialization systems; experience with MES solutions; experience with laboratory automation; experience with databases.
  • Experience working in a regulated / GMP environment
  • Experience working onsite with local teams and remotely with global teams
  • Knowledge of Industrial Cybersecurity Standards
  • Available for On-Call as required
Work Arrangement

This role is on-site at a GSK manufacturing facility in the United States. You will regularly work on the production floor and may occasionally support off-hour commissioning or urgent troubleshooting.

GSK’s Zebulon site is a global supplier of Respiratory and Solid Dose medicines to patients around the globe and the largest GSK Pharmaceutical secondary manufacturing site in North America.
