Job summary

Atlas Tech seeks an Ansible Automation Engineer with strong networking to support Navy customers. You will design and maintain Ansible playbooks, automate Cisco devices, and develop standards for network automation. The role includes mentoring and knowledge transfer, with telework up to 2 days weekly and up to 10% travel.

Must be a US citizen with DoD Secret clearance. Expect collaboration across engineering, operations, and architecture to improve reliability and security of enterprise networks.

Qualifications

  • US citizen and DoD Secret clearance required.
  • Extensive hands-on Ansible experience with playbooks, modules, Jinja2 templates, and inventories.
  • Strong networking background: routing, switching, firewalls, VLANs, BGP, OSPF.
  • Experience with Linux networking and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7/8/9/10.
  • Proficiency in YAML and automation scripting; GitLab and JIRA usage.
  • Ability to design, implement, and maintain automated network solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, and automation frameworks for network operations.
  • Serve as the technical authority for Ansible automation strategy within the network domain.
  • Manage SD-WAN environments and Cisco network infrastructure through automation.
  • Develop reusable automation patterns, standards, and best practices for network teams.
  • Collaborate with network engineering, operations, project managers and architecture teams.
  • Maintain documentation on automation processes, topology impacts, and guides.
  • Ensure automation aligns with DISA STIGs, RMF, and change management requirements.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.

Atlas Tech, a veteran-owned IT company serving multiple DoD customers in support of America's warfighters, is seeking a highly skilled Ansible Automation Engineer with strong networking expertise to assist our Navy customer in defining, developing, implementing, maintaining, supporting, tuning, and troubleshooting software and hardware infrastructure relating to Linux servers. The ideal candidate will bring deep hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies and have exposure to SD-WAN architectures. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining automated network solutions that improve reliability, consistency, and operational efficiency across enterprise environments.

This position allows for telework up to 2 days per week. However, Atlas reserves the right to adjust the schedule, if required to meet the needs of our customer.

Travel Up To - 10%

You Will:
  • Design, develop, and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, and automation frameworks for network operations
  • Serve as the technical authority for Ansible automation strategy within the network domain
  • Utilize Ansible to manage SD-WAN environments and Cisco network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, WAN-Os, and management nodes
  • Develop reusable automation patterns, standards, and best practices for network teams
  • Collaborate with network engineering, operations, project managers and architecture teams
  • Maintain documentation on automation processes, network topology impacts, and operational guides
  • Ensure automation solutions align with security policies (DISA STIGs, Risk Management Framework - RMF), compliance requirements, and change management processes
  • Provide knowledge transfer, training, and mentorship to junior engineers and cross-functional teams
You Have:
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must currently possess and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Level Security Clearance
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Ansible, including playbooks, modules, Jinja2 templates, and dynamic inventories
  • Bash and shell script development experience
  • Background in enterprise networking fundamentals (routing, switching, firewalls, VLANs, BGP, OSPF, etc.)
  • Background in IPV4 and IPV6 networking including subnetting, supernetting and CIDR configurations
  • Experience with Cisco network devices
  • Familiarity with Cisco SD-WAN technologies (Cisco Catalyst 8000V)
  • Understanding of Linux networking
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7/8/9/10 or similar Linux distributions
  • Proficiency with YAML file structure
  • Experience with GitLab and JIRA
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network and automation issues
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
We’d be Impressed if You Had:
  • Cisco certifications (CCNA/CCNP) or equivalent experience
  • Experience with network API integrations (REST, NETCONF, YANG)
  • Experience with Python for network automation use cases
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker/Podman, Kubernetes)
Education/Experience
  • BS Degree in relevant technical field or combination of education and experience
  • Ability to obtain the following certs within 3 months of start date:
    • CompTIA Security+ CE
    • Professional Scrum Developer certification or Certified Scrum Developer certification
  • 5 years Linux system administration experience
  • 5 years experience working with a wide range of IT products
