Job summary

Pfizer is seeking a Sr. Automation Engineer to support manufacturing information systems and improve uptime in Tampa. You will manage projects, maintain validation plans, and ensure safe, efficient operations while mentoring junior staff. Strong knowledge of DCS/PLCs/SCADA and good communication are essential.

The role offers a 1st shift schedule with relocation eligibility and a base salary range of $80,300.00–$133,900.00 plus bonus potential and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with experience, or higher; strong in GMP and computerized systems.
  • Experience with industrial control systems and project management timelines.
  • Ability to troubleshoot root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Experience writing software test plans, user requirements, and system design documents.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and training abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage projects, plan milestones and team tasks.

  • Maintain safe, reliable equipment and facilities; provide SOPs and system support.
  • Analyze process issues and implement corrective/preventative actions.
  • Handle change control and cybersecurity alignment across teams.
  • Provide 24/7 support for automation systems and participate in capital/non-capital projects.
  • Mentor junior staff and train colleagues as needed.
  • Communicate progress and issues clearly to peers.

Working with Pfizer’s dynamic engineering team, you will play a critical role in the management of manufacturing information systems to improve manufacturing success rates and ensuring zero down time.

As a Sr. Automation Engineer your knowledge and skills will contribute towards the goals and objectives of the team. Your focus and ability to meet team targets will help in completing critical deliverables. Your innovative use of communication tools and techniques will facilitate in explaining difficult issues and establishing consensus between teams.

What You Will Achieve

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the completion of projects, manage own time on agreed targets, develop plans for own projects and leads small project teams.
  • Monitor, generate and complete the periodic review, validation master plan for the automation engineering program.
  • Demonstrate good planning, organizing, time management and team participation skills.
  • Responsible for routine and preventive maintenance work, ensure all the equipment and facilities work safely, efficiently and reliably.
  • Generate and develop standard operating procedures and system support.
  • Analyze operational process problems and recommend appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Manage change control authoring and execution.
  • Participate in the site and network wide teams to provide cybersecurity alignment and direction.
  • Provide 24x7x365 support of our automation systems and perform automation activities for capital and non-capital projects.
  • Modify moderately complex to highly complex control logic that requires a degree of scientific and/or manufacturing process expertise.
  • Mentor and guide junior staff and serve as a technical trainer, whenever necessary.
  • Clearly communicate progress and issues to peers.
Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)
  • Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of experience; OR a master’s degree with 0+ years of experience; OR an associate’s degree with 6 years of experience; OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Computerized Systems, Compliance regulations and standards
  • Experience with programming industrial control systems such as DCS, PLCs, SCADA systems, Historians, or SQL Server.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management to timelines and budgets
  • Experience in troubleshooting issues to root cause and recommending and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Experience with writing software test plans, user requirements, and system design

  • Excellent interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills {written and oral}
Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements)
  • Relevant pharmaceutical experience
  • Understanding of programming, and proficiency in at least one language
  • Understanding of network infrastructure, windows servers, and virtualization

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $80,300.00 to $133,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 10.0% of the base salary.

Pfizer compensation structures and benefit packages are aligned based on the location of hire. The United States salary range provided does not apply to Tampa, FL or any location outside of the United States.
