Job description

Summary

Plan, organize and execute electrical automation projects as they relate to the design, commissioning, and aftermarket support of OEM paper converting equipment. This includes (but not limited to) sizing/selection of electrical components, system layout/design, machine programming, and testing/commissioning support of machine lines. Research and develop new utilization of electrical components.

Provide remote and on-site technical support to outside customers who operate a technologically diverse inventory of equipment, from relay logic to modern PLC technology.

Other duties as assigned by the engineering manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs and oversees the electrical design, development, startup, and commissioning of new products or modifications of existing equipment.
  • Communicate effectively when coordinating design efforts with other electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers.
  • Basic programming of PLCs (IEC languages), Servo/Motion controllers, HMIs, and other peripheral equipment as it relates to bag making/web handling machine lines.
  • Provide customer assistance with electrical issues on installed machines, on-site or remotely.
  • Understanding and application of local and national codes (i.e., UL508, OSHA, NFPA79, etc.) as well as company standards for design and safety.
  • Communicate with manufacturing, assembly, and service to resolve conflicts, review designs, and incorporate improvement suggestions.
  • Stay current on new developments in component technologies and trends in the industrial and motion control industries.
  • Produce designs which comply with H.G. Weber & Co., Inc. engineering standards and local regulations.
  • Participate in the design estimation/feasibility analysis process.
  • Communicates with the Technical Publication Department to maintain accuracy of technical information for the customer manuals.
  • Performs testing of new technologies.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred; a two-year Associate Degree in Electro‑Mechanical Technology or similar plus two years of relevant experience are required. PLC/HMI/motion programming and effective communication skills are required. Experience with B&R and Siemens automation is a plus.

Background in machinery troubleshooting in an OEM environment is beneficial.

Experience in Paper converting equipment is preferred.

Knowledge of electrical components, electrical schematics, and hands‑on experience performing small wiring projects is required.
