Job summary

Flex is seeking an Automation Engineer in Austin, TX to support fully automated assembly lines. You will program and troubleshoot robotics and vision systems, develop equipment for electrical component assembly, and collaborate with engineering and operations teams.

Required are a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree and 3+ years of experience with robotics and automation, including CAD tools like AutoCAD or SolidWorks. Expect up to 15% travel and a hands-on, cross-functional environment.

Qualifications

• BS (and/or MS) Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• 3+ years of relevant work experience.
• Robotics programming with UR, Fanuc, Omron, Yamaha or Epson.
• Experience with pneumatics, sensors or conveyors.
• Integration experience with custom automation or turnkey solutions.
• Experience with vision systems, HMIs, and AMRs.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar CAD tools.
• Clear communication with internal and external teams; willingness to learn new tech.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and support automation equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Support automation cells and equipment including Co-bot, SCARA, gantry, gripper, torque driver, dispenser, conveyor, vision system and custom devices.
• Program factory automation equipment (robots, machine vision, servos, pneumatics).
• Troubleshoot automated processes or equipment when errors occur.
• Create and modify equipment to improve electrical component assembly.
• Create documentation for equipment or automation processes.
• Coordinate with vendors and maintenance to ensure spare parts and preventive maintenance.
• Travel within the US up to 15%.

To support production and troubleshoot activities on fully automated assembly lines for manufacturing, we’re looking to add an Automation Engineer located in Austin, TX.

What a typical day looks like:

• Responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting automation equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Support automation cells and equipment including Co-bot, SCARA, gantry, gripper, torque driver, dispenser, conveyor, vision system and custom devices.
• Programming factory automation equipment (robots, machine vision, servos, pneumatics, etc.)
• Troubleshoot automated processes or equipment when errors occur.
• Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components.
• Create documentation for equipment or automation processes.
• Work with vendors and plant maintenance to ensure all automation equipment has appropriate spare parts, and a robust Preventive Maintenance plan.
• Perform the work listed in the standard operating procedures as well as work assigned by upper management.
• Communicate and interface with engineers, designers, and operations managers.
• Deploying systems at customer facilities and performing service work. Travel within the US up to 15%.

The experience we’re looking to add to our team

• BS (and/or MS) Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• 3+ years of relevant work experience.
• Robotics programming, at least one of these UR/Fanuc/Omron/Yamaha/Epson
• Experience with pneumatics, sensors or conveyors.
• Integration experience with custom automation or turn‑key solutions
• Experience with vision systems, HMIs, and AMRs.
• Ability to use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software program to create schematics or drawings.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external functional teams verbally, in writing, and via presentations.
• Ability to learn new technologies.
