Flint Hills Resources is seeking a self-motivated, entrepreneurial individual with high integrity and strong planning skills to work as an Automation & Controls Engineer in our Pipelines and Terminals ICE engineering team at our Wichita, KS headquarters.

We’re looking for a candidate who is contribution motivated, fosters teamwork, and can find solutions in the absence of rigid standards. A high level of initiative and critical thinking skills is essential for managing technical projects and communicating solutions effectively.

Our Team

The ICE Engineering Team (Instrument, Control, Electrical) comprises approximately 17 professionals supporting design, implementation, and commissioning for pipelines and terminals. Responsibilities include electrical design and system management.

What You Will Do

• Design, implement, and commission terminal instrumentation, automation, and electrical power systems
• Perform PLC/HMI programming, equipment configuration, and design reviews
• Manage electrical and automation projects from scope to commissioning
• Develop and maintain standards for electrical and control system design
• Integrate process control equipment with other systems
• Provide 24x7 support and troubleshooting for automation systems

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Degree in electrical or computer engineering, or 5+ years in automation/electrical fields
• Experience with PLC systems
• Willingness to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation
• Willingness to travel 10-25% as needed
• Participation in the DOT Operator Qualification Program

What Will Put You Ahead

• Experience with Schneider Modicon and Allen Bradley PLCs
• Experience with Ignition SCADA systems
• Knowledge of process control communication protocols
• Experience with instrumentation, safety systems, and reliability concepts
• Supporting petrochemical or fuel/ asphalt terminals
• Knowledge of NFPA 70E, electrical codes, and systems administration
• Experience with SQL databases and scripting languages
