Position: Automation Applications Engineer Location: Huntsville, AL

Overview

An established automation and robotics solutions provider is seeking an Applications Engineer to support the development of custom industrial systems across a diverse client base, including manufacturing, consumer goods, and general industrial sectors. This role works closely with commercial teams to develop technical solutions that align with customer needs while maintaining competitive and cost-effective project strategies.

Role Summary

The Applications Engineer is responsible for developing system concepts, cost estimates, and customer-facing proposals for automated equipment and production cells. This position partners with sales teams to translate customer requirements into practical and competitive solutions. The role also involves coordinating with internal teams and external suppliers to build accurate cost models and project scopes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop conceptual designs for automation systems based on customer requirements
  • Collaborate with sales teams to support business development efforts
  • Generate detailed cost estimates, including materials and labor
  • Interface with vendors and internal stakeholders to validate pricing and scope
  • Prepare clear, concise technical proposals for customers
  • Utilize 3D modeling tools to communicate system concepts
  • Occasionally travel to customer sites to evaluate applications and gather requirements
Qualifications
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Ability to analyze manufacturing processes and translate them into automation solutions
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks or similar)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for cost modeling and analysis
