Job summary

Automatic Gate Systems in Phoenix, AZ is hiring for an Install Technician to professionally install, wire, test, and commission commercial automatic gate and access control systems. You will work on slide gates, swing gates, barrier arms, and related low-voltage equipment.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, understands basic electrical systems, and can operate in a field-service environment. 2+ years of related experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with automatic gates, access control, low-voltage systems, commercial fencing, electrical work, or similar field installation preferred.
  • Experience installing automatic gate operators strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of slide gates, swing gates, barrier arms, and pedestrian entry systems.

  • Perform concrete work, equipment mounting, trenching, drilling, and other installation-related tasks as required.

Automatic Gate Systems – Install Technician

Salary Range: $25.00 To $32.00 Hourly

Position Summary

The Automatic Gate Entry Systems Install Technician is responsible for the professional installation, wiring, setup, testing, and commissioning of commercial automatic gate and access control systems.

This position works on a variety of vehicle and pedestrian entry systems, including slide gates, swing gates, barrier arms, gate operators, access control devices, vehicle detection systems, intercoms, and related low-voltage equipment.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, understands basic electrical and low-voltage systems, and is comfortable working in an active construction and field-service environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install commercial automatic sliding, swinging, and barrier gate systems.
  • Install and configure gate operators, control boards, safety devices, and related equipment.
  • Install access control components including card readers, keypads, telephone entry systems, intercoms, and credential readers.
  • Install vehicle detection loops, photo eyes, monitored safety edges, sensors, and other entrapment protection devices.
  • Install conduit, low-voltage wiring, junction boxes, control panels, and associated hardware.
  • Install maglocks, electric strikes, pedestrian gate hardware, and controlled entry devices.
  • Perform concrete work, equipment mounting, trenching, drilling, and other installation-related tasks as required.
  • Fabricate or modify brackets, mounting plates, posts, pedestals, and other components when necessary.
  • Coordinate with electricians, fencing contractors, concrete contractors, and other trades on active job sites.

Electrical & Low-Voltage Systems

  • Perform low-voltage wiring and termination for gate operators and access control equipment.
  • Connect relays, sensors, readers, safety devices, and peripheral equipment.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, plans, and installation drawings.
  • Assist with programming and configuring gate operators and access control devices.
  • Test system communication and functionality prior to turnover.
  • Troubleshoot installation-related electrical, mechanical, and communication issues.
  • Perform complete operational testing before placing systems into service.
  • Verify proper operation of safety devices and entrapment protection systems.
  • Test gate travel, limits, force settings, loops, photo eyes, safety edges, and access control devices.
  • Complete installation checklists and required project documentation.
  • Provide basic system operation instructions to customers when required.

Safety & Quality

  • Follow company safety policies and OSHA requirements at all times.
  • Perform installations in accordance with applicable UL 325 and ASTM F2200 requirements.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites.
  • Ensure installations meet company workmanship and quality standards.
  • Properly maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions or installation concerns to management.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with automatic gates, access control, low-voltage systems, commercial fencing, electrical work, or similar field installation preferred.
  • Experience installing automatic gate operators strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of slide gates, swing gates, barrier arms, and pedestrian entry systems.
  • Understanding of basic electrical and low-voltage wiring.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, meters, and installation equipment.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, installation manuals, and construction plans.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Experience with DoorKing, LiftMaster, HySecurity, FAAC, Nice, Viking Access, Linear, or similar manufacturers is a plus.
  • Familiarity with access control systems, CCTV, intercoms, and networking is beneficial.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an installation team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, climb, bend, and work in confined areas for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working around active construction sites and moving equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate ladders, power tools, and installation equipment.
