Job summary

National Grid plc in Beverly, MA is seeking an Auto/Truck Technician under general supervision to maintain and operate fleet equipment. You will diagnose and repair chassis, engines, transmissions, drive trains, and hydraulic braking systems, while documenting work in Fleet Anywhere and adhering to DOT safety rules.

This role requires ASE certifications within 12 months and a CDL‑A license within 6 months, plus strong safety and written and verbal English communication.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to diagnose problems and repair automotive/truck equipment.
• Thorough knowledge of general garage practices.
• Familiar with diagnostic instruments and equipment used by the department.
• Responsible, thorough and safe work ethic.
• Familiar with gas welding equipment.
• Ability to operate company vehicles and forklifts.
• Working knowledge of desktop computers.
• Able to communicate in English (written & verbal).
• Able to work at heights.
• Must furnish acceptable off-hour contact by telephone.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose troubles, inspect, and repair chassis, engines, transmissions (auto/manual), drive trains, axles, steering, brakes, suspensions, cooling systems, wheels, and lighting.
• Assist others in maintenance and repairs of fleet equipment.
• Work safely, productively, and cost-effectively.
• Respond to service calls for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
• Handle garage materials and hazardous substances per regulations; perform weekly/monthly inspections.
• Document work using Fleet Anywhere or equivalent system.
• Work alone in the shop or at other locations as needed.
• Perform other garage-related duties as assigned.
• Pass pre-employment assessments, background check, and drug/alcohol screening.
