Job summary

Gills Point S Tire & Auto is seeking a Level 1 Mechanic to diagnose and repair various vehicle systems in a fast-paced shop. You will work with a collaborative team, focusing on quality workmanship and customer service while advancing your technical skills.

The role emphasizes diagnosing brakes, steering, suspension, charging systems, and routine maintenance, with opportunities for ASE certification support and career growth within a stable work environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Automotive technical training preferred.
  • 2–4 years of professional automotive repair experience.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing brake systems.
  • ASE A4/A5 certifications preferred, or willingness to earn certifications with company support.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair brake components including pads, rotors, calipers and lines.
  • Diagnose and repair steering and suspension components.
  • Diagnose charging system issues and replace alternators/batteries.
  • Perform tune-ups and preventative maintenance on vehicles.
  • Maintain repair documentation and communicate with customers.

As a Level 1 Mechanic, you'll play a key role in keeping our customers safely on the road. You'll perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of vehicle systems while working in a professional, team-oriented environment with stable hours, ongoing training, and opportunities for advancement.

What You’ll Do

As a Level 1 Mechanic, you'll be responsible for diagnosing and repairing a variety of mechanical systems, including:

Brake Systems
  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and replace brake components including pads, rotors, calipers, hydraulic systems, and brake lines.
  • Perform brake system maintenance to ensure safe vehicle operation.
Steering & Suspension
  • Diagnose and repair steering and suspension components including shocks, struts, control arms, tie rods, steering racks, and power steering systems.
  • Perform steering inspections and suspension repairs to improve ride quality and vehicle safety.
Charging & Electrical Systems
  • Diagnose charging system concerns.
  • Test and replace alternators, batteries, voltage regulators, and related electrical components.
  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting.
Tune-Ups & Preventative Maintenance
  • Replace spark plugs, ignition components, air filters, fuel filters, and cooling system components.
  • Perform routine maintenance services to improve vehicle performance and reliability.
General Mechanical Responsibilities
  • Perform vehicle inspections and accurately identify repair needs.
  • Safely lift and support vehicles using shop equipment.
  • Maintain repair documentation and service records.
  • Properly use and maintain diagnostic equipment, hand tools, lifts, and specialty equipment.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and shop standards.
  • Communicate professionally with customers when needed and work collaboratively with Service Advisors and fellow technicians.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Automotive technical training preferred.
  • 2–4 years of professional automotive repair experience.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing:
  • Brake systems
  • Steering and suspension
  • Charging systems
  • Basic engine performance concerns
  • Tune-ups and preventative maintenance
  • ASE Certifications A4 (Steering & Suspension) and A5 (Brakes) are preferred, or willingness to earn certifications with company support.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to lift, bend, stand, and work in a fast-paced shop environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning as automotive technology evolves.
Physical Requirements:

This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 75 pounds, and safely operating shop equipment while working in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must be able to perform work both inside the shop and outdoors in varying weather conditions while following all company safety policies.
