Job summary

Gillman Home Center seeks a Fleet Mechanic to perform maintenance and repairs on company vehicles at our Batesville, IN location. The role requires diagnosing issues, performing routine maintenance, and providing cost/time estimates.

You will travel to store locations to service trucks, drive a provided work truck, and assist with deliveries in a safety-conscious environment. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, diesel/gas repair experience, and knowledge of mechanical,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Vocational certification or apprenticeship preferred.
• ASE certification a plus.
• Valid Class B CDL a plus.
• Diesel and gas engine repair experience required.
• Experience with hydraulic systems.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic vehicle components.
• Experience with vehicle diagnostic systems.

Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicle components to diagnose issues effectively.
• Perform routine maintenance (fluids, lubrication) to enhance function and longevity.
• Schedule future maintenance sessions.
• Provide accurate repair estimates (cost, time, effort).
• Repair or replace broken parts and fix issues.
• Keep logs/records on work and issues.
• Maintain tools/equipment in good condition.
• Load/unload with forklifts and haul as needed.
• Plan routes for economical time/equipment use.
• Drive to vendors/stores to service vehicles.
• Work from Gillman Home Center shop in Batesville, IN and store locations.
• Assist with preparing deliveries.
• Adhere to safety and security standards.
• Communicate with team members and guests.
• Read, count, and document accurately.
• Observe safety precautions against hazards.

Job description

Perform maintenance on fleet vehicles while being mindful of cost and having a reasonable turnaround time for the customer.

This is a full-time position. Mon- Fri 7:00am – 4:00pm and will report to our shop in Batesville, IN daily.

Essential Functions:

1. Inspect vehicle components to diagnose issues accurately.
2. Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to enhance vehicle functionality and longevity.
3. Schedule future maintenance sessions.
4. Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job.
5. Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues.
6. Keep logs/records on work and issues.
7. Maintain equipment and tools in good condition.
8. Perform a variety of duties such as loading/unloading operating truck mounted forklifts, hauling, etc.
9. Plan route to insure most economical use of time and equipment.
10. Drive to vendors or other stores to pick up orders and/or vehicles.
11. Drive to Gillman Home Center store locations to service vehicles. Will be provided a work truck and gas for travel.
12. Assist with preparing deliveries.
13. Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
14. Ability to communicate with team members and guests.
15. Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation.
16. Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protections against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals, etc.
17. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This position will be working inside at our garage but will be exposed to outdoor elements while working on vehicles outside at our shop or our stores. May have to drive to and from our store locations for vehicle drop off/pick up.

Physical Demands:

Lifting – should be able to lift at least 50 lbs, some bending, climbing, and driving equipment is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; read, talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Travel:

Frequently – to visit our stores to work on trucks, and to pick up parts or vehicles.

Required Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED
• Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred.
• Valid certification (eg.ASE) is a plus
• Valid Class B CDL a plus
• Must have experience with diesel engine repairs, gas engine repairs, and hydraulic system repairs.
• Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles.
• Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods.
