Description

Job Title: Authorization Coordinator

Department: Radiology

Reports to: Director of Imaging Services

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Radiology Clerk admits and registers patients to the hospital. This position ensures excellent Patient Service, for patients and families, physicians and staff, and visitors. This position upholds the mission statement and expectations of the facility.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs admission of patients by completing all fields as required in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Responsible for managing authorizations and scheduling activities.
  • Verifies physician orders, patient information, insurance information and obtains any additional needed information at the time of admission.
  • Perform pre-registration of patients by completing all fields as required in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintains access to and competent in using the internet to verify insurance eligibility and authorization information.
  • Creates patient visit in Registration from scheduled visit by entering all detailed information in a timely manner.
  • Collects, at time of admission, patient liabilities, and assists with calls to patients to negotiate and collect points of service payments.
  • Scans documents as required to the system ensuring correct placement and assignment of the documents.
  • Verifies all required information are signed and scanned at the time of admission.
  • Provides exemplary customer service by immediately greeting patients with courteous smiles, introducing self and providing quick, proficient and accurate registration.
  • Communicate effectively and work cooperatively and professionally with all co-workers, management, patients, visitors, physicians and others. Demonstrates work as a team player.
  • Documents concisely, precisely and accurately in the system and on records, patient account notes or documents for every patient contact.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct to the appropriate destination.
  • Abides by all HIPAA policies and requirements.
  • Actively supports and upholds the mission and core values of the Hospital.
  • Remains knowledgeable of and follows the policies of the Hospital.
  • Always maintains patient and hospital confidentiality.
  • Keeps Manager informed of applicable day-to-day situations.

Qualifications, Education, Experience and Ability

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical registration experience, Radiology terminology and basic office skills preferred.

  • You must regularly lift and move up to 20-30 pounds.

Physical Movements

  • The job involves frequent bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, and reaching with hands and arms above head and below waist. Vision for near, mid-range, far and accommodation. Hearing for low, medium, and high pitch.
  • The work environment in an office setting is temperature controlled. However, the environment can involve exposure to unpleasant sights and odors, blood and body fluids, contact with laser, communicable or infectious diseases, toxic/caustic chemicals, fumes, and the need to always wear protective attire.
