Job Description

Reports To: Assistant Principal for Fine Arts / Principal

Position Summary: The Auditorium & Technical Theatre Supervisor oversees the safe, professional, and efficient operation of the Fishers High School Auditorium and Technical Theatre Systems in support of a highly active and publicly visible Performing Arts Program. This position supports theatre productions, concerts, assemblies, special events, and community events by managing technical systems, supervising student crews as applicable, coordinating production needs, and maintaining facilities and equipment.

While this role collaborates closely with directors and instructional staff, it is not a teaching position. The Supervisor is responsible for student supervision and safety, not curriculum or instruction. This is an hourly position with an extended 220‑day work calendar, requiring flexibility to support evening, weekend, and non‑school‑day events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Auditorium & Facility Operations:

• Oversee daily readiness and operation of the auditorium, stage, control booth, backstage areas, dressing rooms, and technical storage spaces.
• Serve as the on‑site technical supervisor for rehearsals, performances, assemblies, special events, and approved external/community events.
• Ensure compliance with district policies, fire codes, safety regulations, and equipment‑use guidelines.

Technical Theatre & Event Support:

• Coordinate and operate lighting, sound, rigging, projection, and stage systems for theatre productions and non‑theatre events as assigned.
• Support theatrical productions by participating in and helping organize set construction and strike activities in coordination with theatre staff.
• Manage technical needs for concerts, assemblies, and events across departments (theatre, band, choir, orchestra, etc.).
• Troubleshoot technical issues during rehearsals and live events and coordinate repairs when necessary.

Student Supervision:

• Supervise student technical crews and backstage participants during rehearsals, performances, and work calls.
• Enforce safety protocols and appropriate conduct in all technical and backstage areas.
• Model professional workplace expectations and maintain a safe, orderly environment for students.

Equipment, Inventory & Purchasing:

• Maintain inventory of technical theatre and auditorium equipment, tools, and supplies.
• Place orders for approved auditorium and technical theatre equipment, materials, and consumables in accordance with district purchasing procedures.
• Recommend equipment upgrades, replacements, and vendor services as needed.

Safety, Risk & Coordination:

• Monitor safe operation of rigging, electrical, and elevated work areas; ensure only approved practices are used.
• Coordinate with administrators, facilities staff, and vendors regarding inspections, maintenance, and upgrades.
• Document incidents and report safety concerns promptly.

Work Schedule & Conditions:

• 220 workdays per year
• Non‑traditional hours required, including evenings, weekends, and non‑instructional days
• Physically demanding work including lifting, climbing ladders, working at heights, and prolonged standing

Required Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in technical theatre, live event production, or performing arts facility operations
• Working knowledge of lighting, sound, rigging, and stage systems
• Ability to supervise students and manage complex, live events calmly and professionally
• Strong organizational, communication, and safety awareness skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Degree or formal training in technical theatre or related field
• Experience working in educational or multi‑use performing arts facilities
• Familiarity with modern lighting consoles, digital sound systems, and fly systems
• CPR/First Aid/AED certification or willingness to obtain
