Job summary

Novogradac & Company LLP is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage audit and attest engagements, supervise staff, and strengthen client relationships. The role emphasizes problem solving, increasing profitability, and developing audit-specific expertise within our Tax/Audit practice.

The Senior Accountant will mentor staff, pursue CPA licensure if not yet obtained, and handle engagement management with minimal supervision. Travel may be required based on client needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, 2–3 years in public accounting or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of accounting and auditing rules.
  • Ability to sit for the CPA exam or passed sections is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Complete audit and attest projects for designated clients with minimal oversight.
  • Conduct engagement reviews and improve client relationships while increasing profitability.
  • Supervise and mentor Staff Accountants, and help develop audit-specific technical expertise.
  • Develop research, analyze data, interpret results, and prepare reports with recommendations.
  • Meet internal deadlines and travel domestically as required.

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will manage a variety of audit and other attest assignments as designated by the Supervisor or Manager. At this level, the Senior Accountant should function with minimal supervision and increased focus is placed on supervising and mentoring Staff, independent problem solving, strengthening client relationships and increasing team profitability. While this position operates within the Firm’s broader Tax/Audit practice, the individual in this role will spend the majority of their time supporting audit clients and developing audit-specific technical expertise.

Responsibilities, qualifications and expectations outlined in this job description apply broadly; however, day-to-day assignments and client work will be aligned to audit engagements based on business needs.

Your Contributions and Responsibilities

Complete audit and/or attest projects for designated clients as directed with minimal oversight by Supervisors or Managers. Conduct thorough engagement reviews. Accept increasing responsibility for engagement management. Recognize potential problem areas during engagements and propose effective solutions. Conduct business specific research – gather and analyze data, interpret results, compile reports and make recommendations. Develop, strengthen and maintain effective client relationships through professionalism, responsiveness and service-oriented approach. Enhance skills in the industries the Firm focuses on by seeking out and completing training courses. Increase the team’s profitability by managing your time and the time of Staff efficiently, contributing ideas and adding value. Supervise and mentor Staff Accountants. If not already obtained, work toward obtaining a CPA license. Other duties and projects as assigned.

Your Background and Skills

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or finance (advanced degree is a plus) and 2-3 years of experience in public accounting, and/or appropriate balance of education and work experience. Ability to sit for the CPA exam or passed sections of the CPA exam is a plus. Exhibit a strong understanding of accounting and auditing rules. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrate a level of intellectual curiosity. Perform work accurately and in a time efficient manner, with strong attention to detail. Strong organizational and follow-through skills. Ability to effectively prioritize a fast-paced and varied workload, effectively manage a variety of concurrent and shifting priorities. Ability to accept constructive feedback from management and make adjustments as directed. Ability to work collaboratively and foster a productive, team-oriented environment. Strong computer skills, including solid skill in the Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel) and report writing tools. Maintain a professional demeanor with co-workers and clients. Ability to meet internal Firm deadlines (time entry, billing, etc.) Available to work evenings and weekends based on position needs, and to travel domestically if required.

  • Compensation: $81,000 to $99,000 depending on experience. More is possible if experience dictates.
