Hawkins Ash CPAs is hiring a Government Audit Manager to lead audits for municipalities, school districts, housing authorities and other public-sector entities in Wisconsin. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s in Accounting with a CPA and brings leadership, strong communication, and travel flexibility to the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA license.
• Six years of accounting/financial services experience preferred.
• Experience auditing governmental entities and understanding government accounting.
• Experience applying Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book).
• Experience planning/perf Single Audits under Uniform Guidance.
• Strong communication and multi-tasking skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform audits, reviews, compilations, and agreed-upon procedures for governmental entities.
• Plan the engagement, perform fieldwork, and prepare full disclosure financial statements and reports.
• Plan and perform governmental audits in accordance with Yellow Book.
• Plan and perform Single Audits under the Uniform Guidance.
• Travel to/from engagements, including some overnight travel when needed.
• Respond to RFPs and provide staff leadership and career guidance.
• Participate in community activities to build relationships with local leaders.
• Attend continuing professional education seminars.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What you’ll do:

• Perform audits, reviews, compilations, and agreed-upon procedures for governmental entities, including municipalities, school districts, housing authorities, or other public-sector organizations
• Plan the engagement, perform fieldwork, prepare full disclosure financial statements and required reports for management and regulating agencies, perform other non-audit accounting services
• Plan and perform governmental audits in accordance with Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), as applicable
• Plan and perform Single Audits in accordance with the Uniform Guidance, including testing compliance and internal controls over compliance
• Travel to/from engagements, which includes some overnight travel when needed
• Respond to RFP’s
• Evaluate and provide staff with leadership and career guidance
• Actively participate in community activities to develop positive relationships with community leaders and members
• Attend continuing professional education seminars
• Perform other duties as assigned

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, with CPA
• Six years of experience providing accounting and financial services is preferred; exceptions can occur based on work to be performed
• Experience auditing governmental entities and a strong understanding of governmental accounting and financial reporting
• Experience performing audits in accordance with Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book)
• Experience planning and performing Single Audits under the Uniform Guidance
• Housing authority audit experience is a plus, but not required
• Exceptional communication and strong multi-tasking skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and accounting software packages
• Ability to work extended hours as necessary
• Ability to travel to local client sites as needed (some overnight may be required)
