You will handle discovery, depositions, motions, and client inquiries while coordinating with support staff and maintaining billing accuracy.

Ideal candidates hold a JD, Florida Bar in good standing, and 1–3 years of workers' compensation defense experience; civil litigation background is a plus.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active Florida Bar membership.
  • 1–3 years of workers' compensation defense experience.
  • Civil litigation defense experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Manage workers' compensation defense cases from intake through resolution.
  • Conduct discovery, including drafting/responding to requests and reviewing records.
  • Conducts and defends depositions of claimants, witnesses, and experts.
  • Drafts, argues, and responds to evidentiary and procedural motions.
  • Prepares case evaluations, analyses, and status reports per client guidelines.
  • Drafts pleadings, settlement proposals, and correspondence; represents clients at hearings, mediations, and court appearances (periodic travel required).
  • Maintains accurate, timely billing and documentation in accordance with firm and client standards.
  • Coordinates case tasks with paralegals and support staff.
  • Participates in internal meetings and incorporates feedback from supervising attorneys.

Summary:

The Workers' Compensation Attorney is responsible for managing workers' compensation defense matters from initial evaluation through resolution. Responsibilities include handling discovery, taking depositions, drafting and arguing motions, responding to client and claims inquiries, negotiating matters toward resolution, and conducting court appearances as required. This role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, sound legal judgment, effective organization, and the ability to work collaboratively within the practice group. Adaptability and openness to guidance are important in supporting consistent case strategy and performance expectations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. However, the individual may provide indirect guidance or task coordination to legal assistants, clerical staff, or interns in connection with case preparation and defense-related activities.

Education & Experience:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar.
  • 1-3 years of workers' compensation defense experience.
  • Civil litigation defense experience may be considered.
