The City of New York's Department of Social Services is seeking an Agency Attorney Intern to support the Office of Legal Affairs. You will assist with legal guidance, draft motions, and participate in family court matters, while coordinating with multiple borough teams across NYC.
Ideal candidates have or are pursuing admission to the NY State Bar, and bring litigation experience, strong advocacy skills, and familiarity with child support or family law.
The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
The Department of Social Services' Office of Legal Affairs provides legal guidance, litigation support, and direct representation in state and federal courts and administrative agencies to the Department of Social Services and all DSS program areas to ensure the delivery of social services consistent with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Hours/Shift: Monday through Friday 9am – 5 pm with flex

Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections 520.3 or 520.5) or admission to the New York State Bar.
