Job summary

The Montgomery County Public Defender's Office is hiring an Attorney I in the Violations Unit to defend adults facing probation and parole violations in hearings such as Gagnon I/II, detention, and Act 44 review conferences.

The role involves interviewing clients at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, reviewing discovery with the defense, and arguing persuasively at each stage. You will work with a team of social service advocates and investigators to support holistic representation.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania, or eligible under PA Bar rules.
• Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Knowledge of the criminal justice system and probation/parole proceedings.
• Excellent organizational, presentation, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to public service.
• Spanish language proficiency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients at court proceedings.
• Represent clients in detention hearings, probation/parole violation hearings, extradition hearings, and state parole hearings.
• Conduct client interviews in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility and other facilities.
• Review discovery and explain strengths and weaknesses to the client.
• Prepare persuasive legal arguments for each stage of proceedings.
• Collaborate with social service advocates, investigators, and other legal team members.
• Engage in holistic representation addressing collateral matters affecting the client.
• Perform related work as requested by the Chief Defender or Chief Deputy.
