Job description

Summary:

This is an entry-level professional legal position performing legal services as a criminal prosecutor in the office of the District Attorney. The work involves prosecuting criminal cases, assisting law enforcement agencies with investigations and charging decisions, and prosecuting cases at all levels of the criminal justice system, from Magisterial District Judge to Appellate level dispositions. Trials before a jury or judge are expected. This position is distinguished from similar roles by its entry-level status, requiring little to no prosecutorial experience.

Essential Duties:

Essential job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Performing legal research and preparing cases for trial or non-trial disposition.
• Drafting, reviewing, revising, and approving search warrants, arrest warrants, motions, pleadings, and other legal documents.
• Collaborating with law enforcement during criminal investigations to guide and assist.
• Preparing and presenting witnesses and evidence to a county-wide Grand Jury.
• Evaluating criminal cases for appropriate disposition and submitting proposals to senior attorneys.
• Preparing and presenting primarily misdemeanor and low-level felony cases for jury trial.
• Serving as assistant counsel in felony jury trials as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education/Experience:

• Juris Doctorate (J.D.)

Language Skills:

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
• Respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
• Write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or styles.

Mathematical Skills:

• Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and interpret data, such as bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

• Apply logical or scientific principles to practical problems.
• Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Manage various variables, both abstract and concrete.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
