Job summary

CURE Auto Insurance is seeking an Attorney Auditor to join our team in Princeton, NJ. You’ll validate legal bill charges, resolve billing disputes, and support centralized legal bill review across multiple operating units.

The role requires a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, a state license to practice, and at least five years of insurance billing defense experience, preferably in civil litigation. You will review invoices, educate attorneys, and negotiate resolution with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Validate legal bill charges and resolve billing disputes across multiple operating units.
• Audit submitted legal fee and expense invoices for accuracy and compliance with guidelines.
• Lead line-by-line review of invoices to assess reasonableness and fee structures with law firms.
• Gather information from law firms and claims staff to determine reasonableness of time spent.
• Identify billing discrepancies and negotiate resolutions with attorneys and claims staff.
• Educate attorneys and staff on the bill review process and policy compliance.
• Collaborate with claim managers, adjusters and attorneys on billing issues and best actions.
• Develop knowledge on likely legal necessity for defense work.
• Communicate findings to stakeholders and support dispute management.
• Provide training and guidance on legal bill review best practices.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• The Legal Audit Counsel within the Legal Management Services department is responsible for validating legal bill charges, resolving billing disputes, supporting centralized legal bill review, and providing guidance to outside counsel and internal stakeholders across multiple operating units
• Ensure prompt, accurate and efficient auditing of submitted legal fee and expense invoices pursuant to applicable litigation and billing guidelines
• Conduct line by line review of invoices to determine accuracy, reasonableness and compliance with agreed upon fee structure between company and law firm
• Collect information via contact with law firms and claims staff to determine the reasonableness of time spent on tasks and complete the bill review process
• Identify billing discrepancies based on litigation and billing guidelines, industry standards and litigation history, and reduce invoices accordingly
• Discuss, explain and educate attorneys and claims staff on reasons for invoice reductions, the bill review process and compliance with litigation and billing guidelines
• Advise and work closely with claim managers, adjusters and attorneys on billing discrepancies to determine the reasonableness of time spent and the best course of action for resolution
• Develop and maintain extensive knowledge related to determining the likely legal necessity for specific insurance defense and coverage related law firm work
• Make quick, sound decisions and negotiate resolution of billing issues or disputes
• Utilize claim file and document review to obtain claim strategy information and apply it during the review process
• Ensure prompt, accurate and efficient auditing of submitted legal fee and expense invoices and amend as appropriate
• Engage in written and/or verbal communications with law firms and claims, serving as a technical resource for appeal oversight and discretionary reviews
• Participate in calibration and consultation with the Litigation Management Services team
• Collaborate with the claims department for more effective litigation cost control
• Serve as a technical resource to other claim professionals and stakeholders, providing consultation and training regarding legal bill review and related best practices

Physical Actions/Environment

Required job duties consist of prompt and regular attendance, ability to frequently move about the office to coordinate work with others; standing, sitting and typing for extended periods; and lifting and/or carrying up to 5 lbs. Ability to frequently communicate with others in-person, on the phone/virtually, and in writing. Ability to read, understand, process and evaluate large amounts of technical information and make related, informed decisions.

Starting Salary:$50-60 per hour

Schedule: Part-time
We offer flexible work hours between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, and employees can choose a schedule that works best for them—8:00 AM–4:00 PM, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM, or 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. While we aim to support individual preferences, final schedules may be adjusted based on business needs to ensure great coverage and teamwork. We offer a hybrid work schedule: team members work onsite 4 days per week and have the flexibility to work remotely 1 day per week.
