Job summary

The Macon Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office seeks an Assistant Public Defender 3 to represent indigent clients in Superior Court. You will perform trial preparation, research precedents, and draft complex documents and pleadings while maintaining licensure in Georgia.

Under supervision, you will provide competent advocacy, assist with routine cases, and ensure compliance with state bar requirements.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
• License to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination.
• Within one year of hire, licensure to practice law in Georgia (reciprocity acceptable).
• Two years of relevant legal experience or entry at Attorney 2 level if applicable.

Job Description:

The Macon Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is looking to hire an Assistant Public Defender 3.Primary duties include representing indigent clients with criminal case(s) in Superior Court. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position, including, but not limited to, preparation and presentation of cases for trial and entering pleas.Under supervision, the attorney will be responsible for conducting legal research, including researching precedents in cases, preparation and dissemination of complex documents, pleading compilation, orders, etc. Applicants must be a current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender 3 will provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients. This position performs mid-level professional legal work and may assist in cases of routine complexity. To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and a license to practice law in the State of Georgia. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity and two (2) years of relevant legal -experience; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021).
