Job summary

Solterra Materials is seeking a Quality Control Technician to sample and test raw materials and end products used in asphalt mixtures during daily production.

The role involves field and laboratory work, adhering to safety policies, operating and calibrating testing equipment, and documenting results with accuracy for quality control. Occasional travel to jobsites and collaboration with plant personnel are expected.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of construction materials transportation experience.
  • Operating knowledge of transportation software programs.
  • Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must communicate effectively with a professional demeanor.
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills.
  • Must multitask and manage deadlines in an organized manner.
  • Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing).

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Solterra Materials safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct testing in accordance with the Quality Control SOP.
  • Field sample asphalt mixtures from jobsites.
  • Test stockpiled aggregate materials for mix designs and verification.
  • Test field and plant asphaltic concrete materials for specs.
  • Assist with 3rd party sampling at plant sites.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly lab and field work areas.
  • Operate, calibrate and document test results accurately.
  • Promptly report deficiencies to the Product Quality Supervisor.
  • Obtain and maintain certifications required for job duties (ATTI).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for sampling and testing raw materials incorporated into asphalt mixtures and end product asphalt mixtures during daily production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Employee shall perform all duties and responsibilities with Solterra Material's Core Values at the forefront.
  • Must be an advocate of safety and follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct all testing in accordance with Solterra Materials Quality Control Standard Operating Procedure.
  • Field sample asphalt mixtures from jobsites
  • Sample and test stockpiled aggregate materials for mix designs, mix design verification and crusher control.
  • Field and plant sample asphaltic concrete materials and perform tests for compliance with project specifications.
  • Assist with 3rd party sampling at the plant sites.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly working environment in and around Solterra lab locations.
  • Maintain, operate, and calibrate equipment to ensure accurate and representative test results.
  • Properly document, file and share test results.
  • Promptly report any material deficiencies to Product Quality Supervisor and plant personnel as necessary.
  • Obtain and maintain certifications necessary for job duties (ATTI)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This is a field and laboratory position. Employee will be working in the field and in construction materials testing laboratory.

  • Employee may spend extended periods of time standing.
  • Lifting 50 lbs.
  • Extended periods of time outdoors, in extremely hot and cold temperatures.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS
  • This is a full-time position. Flexible hours and locations required
  • Approximately 5 hours of overtime per week, is to be expected.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends, to meet business demands.
TRAVEL
  • Occasional out of town travel may be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • A high school diploma or GED is required, College degree preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of construction materials transportation experience.
  • Operating knowledge of transportation software programs.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a professional demeanor.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean motor-vehic le record. A CDL license is preferred and may even be required for some departments/ divisions.
  • Pass a pre-emptment drug and alcohol screening and background check is required.
