Position Summary

The Athletic Coach provides strategic leadership, technical instruction, and holistic mentorship to student‑athletes within the Framingham High School athletic program. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Coach fosters a safe, inclusive, and competitive environment that prioritizes student‑athlete health, academic success, and character growth. The role ensures that athletics extend the classroom, promoting discipline, teamwork, and inclusive excellence while aligning with Framingham Public Schools’ mission of equity, inclusion, and student success.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

• Must possess or be willing to obtain MIAA‑required coaching certifications, including CPR/First Aid and Concussion Training.

Training and Experience

• High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 2–4 years of experience in playing and/or coaching the specific sport beyond high school graduation.
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese strongly preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

I. Strategic Leadership & Mentorship

• Provide direct training and guidance to athletes, focusing on mastery of sport‑specific skills.
• Identify unique strengths and use diverse coaching styles to build confidence and resilience.
• Model and enforce high standards of sportsmanship, antiracism, and civic responsibility.
• Support athletes’ academic proficiency and time management.

II. Program Design & Implementation

• Develop and execute a balanced practice schedule.
• Continuously assess and evaluate athlete performance during training and competition.
• Advise athletes on health topics, including nutrition and injury prevention.
• Collaborate with the Director of Athletics to schedule facilities and coordinate transportation.

III. Compliance, Regulatory & Legal Oversight

• Ensure athlete safety by adhering to health protocols and concussion management.
• Oversee care, maintenance, and inventory of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
• Execute coaching duties in strict accordance with MIAA, state, and federal laws.
• Maintain confidential records regarding student eligibility and medical clearances.

IV. Personnel Management & Collaboration

• Establish effective collaborative relationships with parents, staff, and the community.
• Communicate team expectations and student progress to stakeholders.
• Engage athletes from diverse backgrounds with cultural proficiency and inclusive excellence.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with athletic standards.

Physical Working Conditions

• Must move throughout school buildings, athletic fields, and grounds frequently and navigate uneven surfaces.
• Occasionally remain stationary for administrative tasks such as roster management and meetings.
• Use digital devices for data entry and reporting.
• Handle athletic equipment and perform manual tasks requiring dexterity.
• Lift and move at least 25 lbs and maintain near‑total vision and hearing to ensure student safety.
• Work in indoor and outdoor environments, often in varying weather and moderate‑to‑high noise levels.
• Directly responsible for safety and well‑being of student‑athletes, including potential exposure to bodily fluids and injuries.
• React professionally in high‑stress situations, including competitive pressure and behavioral issues.

Reports To

• Director of Athletics (and/or Designee).
• Performance evaluated per the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract.
