Job description

We are seeking an Athletic Trainer/Orthopedic Technician to work within the Physician Practice. The role involves independent assessment of patients with athletic or sports injuries as well as providing care for general orthopedic concerns in collaboration with the physician. The technician will maintain certification as an Orthopedic Technician and may serve as procedural or surgical support.

Experience

• 3 years of similar experience in a healthcare environment
• Experience in the identification, care, and follow-up of on-field and sports-related injuries
• Experience in clinical treatment aspects for sports medicine patients
• Experience in musculoskeletal and neurological physical examinations
• Experience in concussion etiology and treatment

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in health science or related field

Certification Summary

• Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC) – National Athletic Trainers Association
• Licensed in State of Georgia – Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers

Job Responsibilities

• Performs clinical triage and initial assessment of patient's history, complaints/injuries and assists in diagnosis and development of treatment plans.
• Coordinates marketing efforts by establishing relationships with and participating in personal visits in the community, including schools, sports clubs, and various organizations to help promote the sports medicine practice.
• Attends miscellaneous sports events, programs, and/or activities to help create a presence and awareness of the sports medicine practice and provide educational and informational opportunities in the community.
• Orders and performs ImPACT testing related to concussion.

Technical Assistance to Physician

• Patient and family education
• Skin preparation
• Applies, modifies, and removes casts, bandages, braces, and splints

Assistance in Surgery

• Sets up patient and equipment
• Maintains environment and equipment
• Assists with surgery, such as suctioning and retraction
• Immobilizes and supports limbs and joints
• Applies dressings, bandages, strappings, etc.

Other Responsibilities

• Returns patient phone calls, emails, faxes, physical training scripts
• Assists in research/data collection
• Assists physician in reading, reviewing, and addressing imaging studies
