Job summary

Stephen F. Austin State University seeks an athletic trainer to coordinate injury care for student-athletes. The role reports to the Director of Sports Medicine and requires state licensure, NATA certification, and CPR/First Aid instructor credentials.

Responsibilities include rehab program design, emergency procedures, documentation, and supervising graduate assistants while ensuring safety at practices and games.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, health, exercise science, or a related field is required.
• Master’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the application of therapeutic modalities and treatments in the training room.
• Aids in the prevention of athletic injuries by administering preventative taping, purchasing and fitting equipment, and maintaining safety conditions at practices and competitions.
• Designs, implements, and coordinates the rehabilitation program for players after surgery or injuries, including preventive exercise based on pre-season screening results.
• Administers emergency procedures to injured athletes during practices and games.
• Maintains records of treatments and injuries of student-athletes and supervises distribution of approved medications under orders of the team physician.
• Assigns and supervises graduate and student assistants in the training rooms.
• Coordinates scheduling and conduct of pre-season athletic physicals for all student-athletes.
• Prepares reports on injured student-athletes for the head coach and provides rehabilitation progress updates.
• Makes arrangements for training room supplies and equipment for trips.
• Conducts training sessions and supervises graduate assistants in athletic medicine activities.
