Job description

Summary

In this role the clinical athletic trainer works under the direct supervision and responsibility of a physician while reporting to the clinic manager. The ATC will assist staff providers, residents, and medical students with patient care, clerical and organizational tasks using a team‑based approach in providing patient care.

Responsibilities

• Performs a thorough medical history on each patient.
• Reviews medications and allergies and evaluates how they affect quality of life.
• Performs an appropriate physical examination on each patient seen, including range of motion testing, strength testing, sensation testing, palpation, functional testing, ligamentous testing, and special tests as needed.
• Orders and interprets diagnostic studies under the direction of a physician, including radiographs, MRIs, EMG studies, CT scans, diagnostic ultrasounds, rehabilitation referrals, and physician referrals.
• Provides educational responsibilities specific to each individual patient, including exercise instruction and demonstration, and answers patient questions regarding the treatment plan, surgery, rehabilitation, and future care.
• Prepares patients for treatment/procedure in a timely manner.
• Performs treatment/procedures/casting/bracing according to established guidelines.
• Prepares and assists the physician with injection procedures performed in the office.
• Follows OSHA guidelines regarding body substance isolation and disposal of sharps.
• Documents accurately and timely in the patient’s record, including all treatment/procedures performed and initials documentation.

Performs a wide variety of direct technical care functions and delivers athletic training services for orthopedics and sports medicine.
