Job description

Location: METROHEALTH MEDICAL CENTER

Biweekly Hours: 72.00

Shift: Varies based on practice and game schedule- M-F 1:30-8:30p; Saturdays and Sundays as needed

Summary

Under the direction of a licensed physician or physical therapist, assumes responsibility for the management and provision of care to an athlete to prevent, correct, alleviate injuries. Athletes may include any individual, ranging from children through geriatric populations, who participates in sports, games, recreation, exercise or other activity that requires physical strength, agility, flexibility, speed, stamina, or range of motion. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree with a major in Athletic Training. Possess current Athletic Training license in the State of Ohio. Possess current BLS certification, or obtains within 90 days of hire.

Preferred: Professional experience as an Athletic Trainer Certified.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling during ambulation and/or gait training.
  • Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm or leg during exercise program.
  • Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient’s pulse.
  • Visual acuity to observe patient’s gross movement, gait, etc., in order to analyze biomechanical problems.
  • Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families who may not be able to read.
  • Ability to hear or understand patient’s description of symptoms and response to treatment. Frequently (25-75% of the time) performed tasks Standing, sitting with and without back support, walking, reaching (overhead, forward, lateral, and low), crouching, balancing, lifting 5-25 pounds, carrying 5-10 pounds, and pushing up to 75 pounds.
  • Occasionally (5-25% of the time) performed tasks Stooping, climbing, lifting or moving 24-50 pounds, carrying 10-25 pounds, and operating power tools and machinery.
