Job description

Responsibilities and Duties

• Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, including checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam rooms; assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, preparing for exam; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
• Completes clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/X‑ray reports, hospital notes, referral information; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and updating charts to ensure information is complete and filed appropriately.
• Fits patients and gives appropriate instruction on a variety of DME; prepares patients for diagnostic tests and assists in coordination of patient care; is proficient in casting and splinting applications and associated procedures including dressing changes and suture removal.
• Completes organizational responsibilities as assigned, including respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
• Is available for sport coverage duties at various events; rounds with contracted high schools and colleges to provide care, assistance and education to injured athletes.
• Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities, which include checking vital signs; preparing for physical examination; verifying prescriptions with physician’s orders; performing laboratory procedures under OSHA guidelines; ensuring quality control methods; providing emergency first aid.
• Adheres to the MA scope of practice in the laboratory and complies with NYS guidelines.
• Works as part of a team along with Physicians, APPs, Licensed Nurses, Receptionists and all other staff.
• Always maintains patient confidentiality and is HIPAA compliant.
• Complies with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Job Requirements

• Candidates must have at minimum a bachelor’s degree and be a NYS Certified Athletic Trainer; excellent interpersonal skills and customer service attitude.
• Preferred: experience working as an MOA or ATC in an athletic environment.
• Experience in an outpatient/office setting.
