Job summary

Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences seeks an Athletic Trainer to provide on-site coverage at the MidAmerican Rec Plex and affiliate locations. You will deliver primary care, injury prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation for a wide range of sports, while educating athletes, families, coaches, and the community.

The role requires NATA BOC certification, an Iowa athletic training license, CPR certification, and 1–3 years of experience.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience as an Athletic Trainer.
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited athletic training program.
  • Must be NATA BOC certified and possess an Iowa athletic training license.
  • CPR certified.
  • Driver’s license in good standing.
  • Strong clinical judgment; physically able to assist patients.
  • Clear communication under pressure, ability to work independently and complete documentation accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Provides exceptional athletic training services to teams and contracted organizations, managing injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation across multiple sports.
  • Adheres to professional, ethical and legal standards, operating within Iowa statutes and HIPAA/FERPA requirements.
  • Assist with building, supervising, and implementing customized workshops/classes for prevention of injuries and performance.
  • Represent Des Moines University and support clinic goals.

Job description

At Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of medicine and health sciences. DMU is seeking an Athletic Trainer to provide onsite coverage at the MidAmerican Rec Plex and affiliate locations. Athletic Trainers deliver primary care, injury prevention, emergency response, clinical evaluation, and rehabilitation services. This role also supports performance classes, clinics, and camps, and provides education to athletes, families, coaches, students, and the community.

What you’ll do:
  • Provides exceptional athletic training services to teams and organization contracted: management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation for a wide variety of sporting events including but not limited to: football, hockey, soccer, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, lacrosse, rugby, gymnastics, and more. The Athletic Trainer works under direct supervision of a physician in accordance with Iowa State law practice act. These services may occur during the week, evening, and weekends.
  • Adheres to professional, ethical and legal standards of practice and is responsible for working within the Iowa Athletic Training Practice Act, Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers Standards of Professional Practice, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), HIPAA, and other legal mandates.
  • Assist with building, supervising, and implementing customized workshops/classes for prevention of injuries, conditioning, and sports performance classes.
  • Commits to Des Moines University and the Clinic’s mission and vision.
  • Represent Des Moines University while building community relationships and portraying a professional image.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by my supervisor to support clinic goals.
What we are looking for:
  • 1-3 years of experience as an Athletic Trainer.
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited athletic training program.
  • Must be NATA BOC certified and possess an Iowa athletic training license.
  • CPR certified.
  • Driver’s license in good standing.
  • Strong clinical judgment; physically able to assist patients.
  • Clear communication under pressure, ability to work independently and complete document accurately
