Job summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking an Athletic Trainer for the Sports Medicine Section of Campus Health Service. The role includes providing athletic training services to varsity and non‑varsity students and serving as a trainer for specified UNC teams.

The incumbent will participate in clinical instruction for Athletic Training Students, Residents and medical students, and may engage in Sports Medicine research activities under the supervision of the Director of Sports

Qualifications

• Must have or be eligible for North Carolina athletic trainer licensure.
• Relevant post‑Baccalaureate degree required; foreign degree acceptable.
• A relevant Bachelor’s degree is acceptable with 1 year of substitution.

Position Summary

This position is a primary staff position in the Sports Medicine Section of the Campus Health Service. The Athletic Trainer is expected to provide athletic training services for all students including varsity and non‑varsity athletes; to act as an athletic trainer for specific UNC teams; and to participate actively in the training activities of the Sports Medicine Section, including graduate and undergraduate programs for Athletic Training Students in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. In addition, the Athletic Trainer will participate in the clinical instruction of the many health care professionals‑in‑training, Residents and medical students on the Sports Medicine Service, and other allied health student that are involved in affiliations with the Sports Medicine Program. Where appropriate, the incumbent will participate in the research activities carried out by the Sports Medicine Program. The Director of Sports Medicine will supervise this position.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Relevant post‑Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

Must have or be eligible for North Carolina athletic trainer licensure.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

• Two years of work experience with either Division 1A intercollegiate or professional athletics.
• Three years of full-time work experience in a college athletic training setting.
• Experience supervising student athletic trainers.
• Clinical research experience.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
