Responsibilities
- risk management and the prevention of athletic injuries; recognition, evaluation, and assessment of athletic injuries; immediate care and first aid of injuries; treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries; health care administration; and professional development and responsibility. This position is responsible for team coverage and the daily operation of the athletic training facilities. Evening, night and weekend work required. This position will adhere to the Colleges, state and federal regulations of confidential information.
- Responsible for athletic care pertaining to Allegany camps, clinics and tournaments.
- Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications; determine when to activate EMS as part of Allegany's emergency action plan.
- Interprets the role of the certified athletic trainer and promotes athletic training as a professional discipline.
- Monitors environmental conditions to ensure safety.
- Event management and prevention considerations for athletes, visiting teams, and relevant events.
- Plans and implements programs for prevention, recognition, evaluation, and care of athletic injuries; identifies injury and illness risk factors.
- Coordinates accident insurance for athletes and processes insurance claim forms and records.
- Works with coaches on injury reporting, examinations, and safety equipment recommendations.
- Participates in Athletics and Physical Education department assessment and data collection.
- Work approximately 10 hours per week in Fitness Center as needed.
- Completes yearly inventory of athletic training supplies and equipment and reports to supervisor.
- Advises athletes, parents, and coaches on health matters within the scope of professional certifications.
- Occasional travel with teams; travel expectations evaluated at the start of each season.
- Oversees athletic training needs of all Allegany College of Maryland sports camps and clinics.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or related field.
- Certification from the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATA-BOC) required.
- Recent graduates may be required to have a Master's degree as program/certification requirements have changed.
