Job summary

San Diego State University Facilities Services is seeking a Lead Athletic Fields Groundsworker to provide lead direction to grounds staff, coordinate maintenance of athletic fields, and support turf management for NCAA Division I facilities and campus events. The role focuses on safety, quality, and efficient field operations.

Responsibilities include leading the groundscrew, training staff, maintaining records, and ensuring high-quality playing surfaces.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in planting, cultivating, or general grounds maintenance.
• Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
• Thorough knowledge of turf management, soil management, and plant care.
• Ability to organize, coordinate, and oversee the work of others.

Responsibilities

• Provide lead direction to Athletic Fields Groundsworkers and oversee assignments.
• Train employees in athletic field maintenance techniques and safety.
• Conduct quality control inspections and ensure efficient work.
• Maintain records of labor, costs, and activities.
• Promote a safe work environment and ensure safety compliance.
• Oversee athletic field and grounds maintenance including mowing, irrigation, and fertilization.
