Job summary

The City of New Haven is seeking a Field Technician to lead maintenance of athletic fields and park infrastructure, ensuring safety and high playing standards. You will supervise staff, operate specialized equipment, and coordinate routine and advanced maintenance tasks with a focus on turf and irrigation management.

Responsibilities include planning upgrades, maintaining synthetic fields, and adhering to safety regulations.

Qualifications

• High school graduation and 5–7 years’ experience with hand/power tools, light equipment, groundskeeping and field maintenance.
• 3–5 years as a Caretaker for the City of New Haven or industry equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of turf/field maintenance and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and operates tractors, rotary, and other grass-cutting equipment; trucks materials to and from jobs.
• Maintains and repairs athletic fields including mowing, aerating, and watering.
• Maintains Synthetic Turf Fields including grooming, cleaning, and in-fill practices.
• Marks and lines fields for various sports according to regulations.
• Inspects fields regularly for hazards and repairs as necessary.
• Assists in planning and implementing annual upgrades, irrigation, seeding, aeration, and fertilization under supervision.
