Job description

Coordinates County athletic programming, supports daily athletics operations, trains and directs assigned staff, manages volunteer-coach documentation, assists with events and public communications, and serves participants, families, and community partners. Essential Functions
  • Coordinates the daily operation of assigned athletic programs and coverage in consultation with the Director and Assistant Directors.
  • Plans and implements leagues, evaluations, tournaments, track meets, all-star activities, community events, and other assigned athletic programming.
  • Recruits and trains part-time staff and provides work direction within approved staffing procedures; routes hiring recommendations and personnel actions to authorized officials.
  • Confirms that volunteer-coach applications and required background-screening documentation are completed and routed through the County's authorized process before participation.
  • Monitors athletic functions, travels with teams when assigned, addresses routine participant concerns, and escalates safety, conduct, policy, or disciplinary matters outside delegated authority.
  • Provides coaching, task feedback, and documented performance information to assigned staff; formal disciplinary and final evaluation authority is Pending HR Review.
  • Prepares flyers, approved news releases, brochure content, photographs, schedules, rosters, reports, and other communications for assigned programs.
  • Represents the department at approved public meetings, professional-development activities, and Georgia Recreation and Park Association committees within delegated authority.
  • Maintains program, participant, volunteer, screening, training, incident, and personnel-related records using role-based access, minimum-necessary use, retention, correction-history, audit-trail, and secure-handling requirements.
  • Records all hours worked, including required travel, training, meetings, event setup and cleanup, remote work, tournament, weekend, call-back, and after-hours work.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assists other Recreation and Sports Management employees with related programs, events, public information, and operational work.
  • Performs related duties consistent with the classification and delegated authority.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
Education

High school diploma or GED.

Experience

Three years of experience organizing recreation or athletic activities.

Equivalent Combination

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required athletic-program, staff-coordination, records, and public-service capabilities may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
  • College-level coursework or vocational training in recreation, sports management, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience coordinating leagues, tournaments, volunteers, part-time staff, or community athletic events.
Required Licenses and Certifications
